We are headed for the 70's .. and here's how I know

The Speaker of the House of Representatives accused the CIA of lying publicly. Accused them of a conspiracy to mislead congress about how they get information.

One thing is for sure.

If there is no such conspiracy, then she is a criminally negligent FOOL, and a really terrible liar under pressure.
But in throwing down such a gauntlet in such a way, then only hard and real damage to our intelligence organs and their roguish behaviors can be an acceptable outcome to her, the Speaker of the House

Let's take the wayback machine to 1975, and Gerald Ford, post Nixon-Watergate, and a year before J Carter:
The Church Committee:
"They were very specific about their effort to destroy American intelligence [capabilities]," remembers Robert Ellsworth, a U.S. diplomat. "It was Senator Church who said our intelligence agencies were 'rogue elephants.' They were supposedly out there assassinating people and playing dirty tricks and so forth...Well, that just wasn't true." Rumsfeld and Ellsworth prevented the committees from dismantling the CIA and other intelligence organizations.

We are faced now with hearings over torture (Conyers, Waxman, Leahy) , and recrimination parties held for PURELY partisan political reasons. We have now added the public cry of the Speaker, who would not have undertaken such a charge without confidence in the knowledge of what is going to unfold in Congress.

In 1975 we had the years long exposes of the Church Committee, and by 1979 we were blind to what unfolded in Afghanistan. But no one was trying to bomb NY and Washington and LA then.

We cannot have the CIA engaging in a conspiracy to mislead the people they serve, US.

We cannot have the Speaker of the House publicly accusing the CIA of this for personal survival to avoid the chains of hippocracy I believe she has earned rather well.

Nancy Pelosi will now allow hearings thru Conyers et al, and will attempt to obfuscate what she has done.

What she has earned is RESIGNATION.

But maybe she will serve the nation better where she is, as a big fat lying target to rally opposition around, if the Republicans have the brains to take advantage of her.

She is an icon of what is wrong.

Thanks for the history lesson. I was not aware of the Church Committee.

I was more interested in basketball and skateboarding at that time.

I'll settle for irretrievable public humiliation

Unbelievably to me, I hear Dems defending Pelosi. Clearly, she is lying.
