IRAN DECIDES TO BARE ALL: ARRESTS "DEFEATED" CANDIDATE MOUSAVI

From Reliapundit, the Astute Blogger:

*******UPDATEBBCREPORTED MOUSAVI IS APPARENTLY FREE - BUT IN HIDING - AS THE REGIME HAS ROUNDED UP 100'S OF REFORMERS FOR HAVING TIES TO THE RIOTERS...

*******UPDATE #2: YNET: IRANIANS DENY MOUSAVI UNDER HOUSE ARREST.

*******UPDATE #3: GUARDIAN:

Outraged supporters of the moderate candidate, Mir Hussein Mousavi, who claimed his defeat in the Iranian election at the hands of hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was manipulated, took to the streets of Tehran again today raising the prospect of more violent clashes.

With temperatures at 35C , the situation in the Iranian capital threatened to reach boiling point as special forces in riot gear chased protesters through side streets near Fatemi Square. In a sign of the anger among Mousavi's supporters, they chanted "the president is committing a crime and the supreme leader is supporting him", highly inflammatory language in a regime where the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, is considered irreproachable.

Crowds also gathered outside Mousavi's headquarters but there was no sign of Ahmadinejad's chief political rival, who is rumoured to be under house arrest. Supporters waved their fists and chanted anti-Ahmadinejad slogans.

Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi was reportedly arrested Saturday following the reformist's defeat at the polls by hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Supporters of Mousavi, the main challenger to Ahmadinejad, have responded to the election with the most serious unrest in Tehran in a decade and claim that the result was the work of a dictatorship.

There have been a number of contradictory reports from Iran, in large part due to the heavy restrictions imposed on the media in the Islamic Republic and in particular on foreign reporters.

Mousavi's arrest was reported by an unofficial source, who said that the presidential contender had been arrested en route to the home of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Pro-reform Mousavi has denounced the election as rigged and vowed he will not accept defeat. He and key aides could not be reached by phone Saturday.

  • IF THIS IS TRUE IT MEANS THAT THE MULLAHS THINK THIS IS AN EXISTENTIAL BATTLE, OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN'T DARE DO THIS WITH THE WHOLE WORLD WATCHING.

  • IT EXPOSES THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE: TWO-BIT THUGS HIDING BEHIND THE KORAN AND UNDER TOWELS.

  • LIKE THE CHICOMS AT TIENANMEN, THEY DECIDED THAT THEY HAS TO DO IT AND FIGURED OUT THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT.

  • IT'S UP TO THE WEST - THE FREE WORLD - TO SEE TO IT THAT THEY DO NOT GET AWAY WITH IT.

  • THERE'S ONLY ONE NATION THAT CAN LEAD THAT EFFORT: THE USA.

  • IT WON'T HAPPEN BECAUSE WE HAVE AN APPEASING LEFT-WING PIECE OF CRAP IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

  • AND THE MULLAHS KNOW IT; THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WHY THEY DID IT.

By the way, don't be surprised if there is some kind of M. Night Shyamalam double-switch ending, wherein the Iranian Muhllocracy realizes the error of their ways and awards Mousavi the Presidency, because "the people have spoken".

This would be a Public Relations Coup for the Mullah Regime, who after all, pick all the Presidential Candidates in the first place.

Remember, the LA Times was, just a couple of days back, believed that Freedom was blooming in strange, magical ways.

Somehow, I don't buy the whole arrest scenario.

Why would the Mullahs arrest the guy they installed as a Presidential Candidate in the first place? Did he do something they did not expect him to do? If so, could they not have taken him out before the election?

Fishy!

Here's the iranian regime in action:

The Iranian regime has generously spent on Hamas, Hezbollah and its nuclear program while at the same time the agriculture and industry are collapsing.

I doubt Zero will move a fingernail.

"Ket's (sic) hope Mousavi doesn't disappear into Evin or end up with one final vote at the end of a rope or 9mm."

This Iranian election will reveal Islam's freedoms to vote within acceptable Islamic parameters and the entire western free world will once again glance over at the mayhem, shrug, yawn and then continue to gaze at their respective navels.

Of the UN, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush - Reagan responded weakly - the rest - pffffft.

Why on earth would you expect anything from Obama? Our media will react mirroring the godlike O.

Why the big surprise?

Amadinejad just now: "Which one of you [nations] dare to threaten Iran? Raise your hands and we'll cut your hands off." The phrase "God willing" also thrown in there someplace.

This is what he'd like to say at the U.S. this year.
