Anti-Burqa Imam Targeted By Fellow Muslims Who Storm His Mosque

From AnsaMed:

PARIS, JANUARY 26 - Tension is high in France where Hassen Chalghoumi, the imam at the Drancy mosque, who in recent days sided in favour of a law that bans the use of the full veil has been hit by serious threats.

A group of some 80 people stormed the Drancy mosque yesterday evening, making threats against Chalgoumi, a great supporter of interreligious dialogue (above all between Jews and Muslims), who recently declared that he was against the use of the full veil in France.

A group of 80 people, with their faces covered, stormed the mosque where some 200 worshippers were present, a council member of the Conference of Imams, chaired by Chalgoumi himself, told the France Presse agency, asking to remain anonymous.

They forced their way in and grabbed the microphones after a scuffle. At this point, they directed threats and curses against Imam, treating him as an unbeliever and an apostate and stating: we will trash his case, this Imam of the Jews...

Launched in 2009, the Conference of Imams is a collective that promotes an interreligious dialogue and the promotion of open Islam. In recent days, Hassen Chalghoumi has said that he is in favour of a law that bans the use of the full veil in France, describing it as a prison for women, an instrument used for sexist domination and Muslim recruitment.

The parliamentary mission, which has been studying the measures to be adopted against the full veil, has today recommended that France should solemnly declare itself in favour of the ban and has asked for the adoption of a series of measures to ban it from administration offices and public transport.

So, predictable. In fact, I did predict it.

Pastorius,

Lets hope the French Authorities are able to protect him.

I don't hold out great hope on that front.

Ugh!

How is the West going to survive this kind of thing?

How predictable!

The guy is already a piece of dead meat! He doesn't know it yet! Nobody bothered to inform him... Don't show him this comment... Give him extra five minutes!...

Alex.

That's what makes him so brave. He knows his views will bring him death threats and possibly even death, but he promotes his message of authentic moderate Islam nonetheless. He is probably well aware that the police will not intervene to help him; he knows they're terrified of "the youth".

Yeah, I admire this guy. He ought to be the IBA Muslim of the Year.

Think twice! I smell a TAQIYA!...

Alexander Münch,

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The guys actions put his life in danger, and it would be a rather elaborate conspiracy if this is all faked. He would have to get together in secret with the with all the people who attacked his mosque and in the meantime he would have to worry about other Muslim fundamentalists who were not in on his plan taking him out. Its not impossible, but I doubt it, especially since this is something that would actually serve to retard the Islamitization of his country. If he's really a Jihadist, that is the last thing he would want. In fact in the long run it could stop it altogether.

Rumcrook,
Wasn't hard. Like I said, predictable.

Alexander,
I'm with Damien on this one. I don't think this is Taqiyya. Dude is putting his life on the line.

If it is Taqiyya, then he will be the first suicide Taqiyya bomber.

Pastorius,

That and the fact that this actually doesn't serve the interests of groups like CAIR

For what it's worth, I think this imam is the real deal.

Time will tell.
