Muslim chaplain ’smuggled’ box cutters into NYC jail

Wow. So about those civilian terrorist trials…in New York. As Oriana Fallaci wrote, “Behind every Islamic terrorist there is an Imam…” Damning news from Reuven Blau and Dan Mangan at the NYPOST.com, Muslim chaplain ’smuggled’ box cutters into jail:

A Muslim chaplain for the city Department of Correction was arrested this morning for allegedly trying to smuggle in three box-cutters to a lower Manhattan jail.

The imam, Imam Zul-Quarnain Shahid, has worked as a DOC jail chaplain for three years, according to department sources.

Several sources said Shahid was caught this morning attempting to bring three box-cutters into the jail known as the Tombs during a visit there. It was not known why he was visiting the jail.

A DOC spokesman had no immediate comment.

Muslim chaplains ain’t exactly the most pious, peaceful bunch, as our previous posts indicate.

Box cutters = bar mitzvah ? At the risk of going a wee bit off color, did this reporter mix up Jewish rituals?

". . .organized a bar mitzvah party within the jail's walls for the son of an inmate"

The age of the inmates son wasn't given, so the ritual they were supposedly celebrating could have been a brit milah (ritual circumcision with a surgical blade - not performed in a prison!) instead of a bar mitzvah.

Funny, only because the linked article also states:

". . .the politically connected Glanz resigned as chaplain,. . ."

During a Brit Milah, the Mohel employs traditional methods to perform the circumcision procedure and isolates the glans from the foreskin to be removed from the eight day old Jewish infant. Following the surgical procedure, a festive meal is served to celebrate.

Couldn't help but notice, in this case, Glanz was also 'isolated' from his connections.

Where is that story from? And, what does it have to do with this story?

Hyperlink'd above in your post you'll find the original article @ the "NYPost".

The NYPost's reporter(s) made a pathetic comparison between this "imam smuggling boxcutters into a lower Manhattan jail know as the tombs." and another disciplined chaplain for Jewish inmates who assisted with a celebratory party at the jail for an inmates son's supposed 'bar mitzvah'. . .hence the "Box cutters=Bar mitzvah" simplified analogy in my earlier comment.

Equating box cutters with a party for a bar Mitzvah made absolutely no sense.

However, since the NYPost reporters weren't clear in their report about the Jewish inmates son's age, the reporter may have guessed the celebration was for a bar mitzvah. Rather, the celebration could have been for another Jewish religious service which - stretch with me here - would have tied the analogy to blades, one a surgical blade for a Jewish ritual circumcision the other a utility blade found in the box cutters smuggled in by this imama.

It's a bad analogy either way since the mohel (rabbi) would not be performing circumcisions at the jail - he would be with an eight day old Jewish boy and his non-incarcerated family.

The Jewish chaplain, on the other hand, simply assisted the inmate with the traditional celebratory event which takes place after the circumcision took place elsewhere with a mohel.

A mohel (rabbi specializing in newborn circumcision) would never choose a prison chaplancy as his main source of income.

I say: I agree.

Now I understand your point. Thanks.
