Rep. Michele Bachmann: "America Will Be Cursed If We Reject Israel"...

From Weasel Zippers:

Bachmannrjc1

That faint popping sound you hear is lefty heads exploding all around you...

Partial transcript Bachmann's remarks at a recent Republican Jewish Coalition event in Los Angeles:

I am convinced in my heart and in my mind that if the United States fails to stand with Israel, that is the end of the United States . . . [W]e have to show that we are inextricably entwined, that as a nation we have been blessed because of our relationship with Israel, and if we reject Israel, then there is a curse that comes into play. And my husband and I are both Christians, and we believe very strongly the verse from Genesis [Genesis 12:3], we believe very strongly that nations also receive blessings as they bless Israel. It is a strong and beautiful principle.

Right now in my own private Bible time, I am working through Isaiah . . . and there is continually a coming back to what God gave to Israel initially, which was the Torah and the Ten Commandments, and I have a wonderful quote from John Adams that if you will indulge me [while I find it] . . . [from his February 16, 1809 letter to François Adriaan van der Kemp]:

I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation. If I were an atheist, and believed in blind eternal fate, I should still believe that fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential instrument for civilizing the nations. If I were an atheist of the other sect, who believe or pretend to believe that all is ordered by chance, I should believe that chance had ordered the Jews to preserve and propagate to all mankind the doctrine of a supreme, intelligent, wise, almighty sovereign of the universe, which I believe to be the great essential principle of all morality, and consequently of all civilization.

. . . So that is a very long way to answer your question, but I believe that an explicit statement from us about our support for Israel as tied to American security, we would do well to do that.

I'd prefer it if she put it another way other than a religious apocalyptic references.

I'm glad that personally she feels that way, but decisions of state cannot be made that way.

There are PLENTY of reasons to maintain a US-Britain level relationship with Israel, if not tighter, and none of them have anything to do with an religious reference.

Never the less, she was in a forum where I'm sure it was welcomed. And she displays no more n her way than many other historical politicians in referencing god.

She's one of the good guys, but she gives ammo to the bad ones with a ref like that

Yep.

But, you know, Roosevelt and Churchill stood on a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" (or some such hymn) with tears in their eyes.

Such sincere belief, on the part of our leaders is not uncommon in American history. It's just unfashionable these days.

I bet.

Sorry to be such a Fundamentalist, by the way.

But, there are a few things in the Bible that I take very seriously, and the warning about blessing, not cursing, Israel is one of those. The New Testament also warns believers, do not be arrogant towards the Jews, lest you be cut off.

The Bible is very clear on this subject. I heed the warning and concur with Michelle Bachman, though I do understand your point.

I have no problem with people being Fundamentalist. That is their faith level. It's when it reaches a point where those who do not follow that path become damned where the problems start.

My time in research convinced me there is a law to nature, and that it is conscious. But I have always had a problem with dogma as the word of man. Color me TJ on that one.

My point on Michelle is .. don't give the other guys fuel. They are salivating to Palinize her.

We will be cursed. Especially on the day our men and women have to fly against Su-35's filled with Israeli avionics as a result of our lack of support. That's plenty of curse considering Russian electronics and their record against us otherwise.

Pasto,

As a JIZFI* to an Infidel:- I'm reading now (simultaneously), three Master Pieces of my favored writers.
Isaiah Ben Amotz, Ernest Hemingway and Karl Sagan...

Isaiah is easy to read! ( I do it straight from his 2000 years old scrolls... and without a magnifying glass!...).
See here:- http://alexander-munch.blogspot.com/2010/01/dead-sea-scrolls.html

I understand the Christian Lady's stand point. She is fond of Classic & "Universal" writers and their messages... but her final conclusion is wrong because "There are PLENTY of reasons to maintain a US-Britain level relationship with Israel, if not tighter, and none of them have anything to do with an religious reference." as Epaminondas said !

I'm going to use my Israeli CHUTZPAH and say:- The USA needs Israel more then .... Bla, Bla, Bla!
=== I'm not blinking !!! ===

I say: There are PLENTY of reasons to maintain a US-Britain level relationship with Israel, if not tighter, and only one of them has anything to do with an religious reference.
