Iranian Cleric Declares Jihad On Dogs - Leftists Agree

From Watcher:

Iranian cleric decrees dogs are "unclean", too Western and not to be kept as pets

(Reuters) - A senior Iranian cleric has decreed dogs are "unclean" and should not be kept as pets -- a move aimed at discouraging Western-style dog ownership in the Islamic state, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Dogs are considered "unclean" under Islamic tradition but, while relatively rare in Iran, some people do keep them as pets.

By issuing a fatwa -- a religious ruling -- Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi has sent a clear message that this trend must stop.

"Friendship with dogs is a blind imitation of the West," he was quoted as saying in Javan daily. "There are lots of people in the West who love their dogs more than their wives and children."

Guard dogs and sheep dogs are considered acceptable under Islamic law but Iranians who carry dogs in their cars or take them to public parks can be stopped by police and fined.

The Koran does not explicitly prohibit contact with dogs, Shirazi said, but Islamic tradition showed it to be so. "We have lots of narrations in Islam that say dogs are unclean."

Pet Dogs Are A Clear And Present Danger To The Environment, Claims New Book
If you didn't already understand that environmentalists are completely out of their minds, then read this.

You may think this idea is crazy, but the fact is, it's completely logical if you buy the eco-leftie/Anthropogenic Global Warming paradigm.

And, if you do believe in AGW, it is incumbent upon you to kill your dog immediately.

From the Telegraph:

Owners should consider doing without, downsizing or even eating their pets to help save the planet, according to a new book.

Pet dogs as bad for planet as driving 4x4s, book claims

It claims that the carbon footprint left by domesticated animals is out of proportion to the size of their paws.
A medium-sized dog has the same impact as a Toyota Land Cruiser driven 6,000 miles a year, while a cat is equivalent to a Volkswagen Golf.
But rabbits and chickens are eco-friendly because they provide meat for their owners while a canary or a goldfish has little effect on the environment.
At the same time a pair of hamsters do the same damage as running a plasma television, suggests the book Time to Eat the Dog: The Real Guide to Sustainable Living.

Stop the snickering and start the slaughtering.

Once again, if you buy the eco-leftie/Anthropogenic Global Warming paradigm, and you don't kill and eat your dog, you are destroying the Earth and you are a hypocrite.

Maybe one of you guys can find this for me. On the back of (or possibly liner notes) of a Bob Dylan album from the middle to late '60s there's a poem by him in which he mentions Joan Baez, who spent part of her childhood in North Africa, telling him about how the (Muslim) men in her neighborhood used to stone street dogs to death.

Revere --

from Dylan's liner notes to Joan Baez's In Concert Part 2

In a crusin' car I heard her tell
About the childhood hours she spent
As a little girl in an Arab land
An' she told me 'f the dogs she saw
Slaughtered wholly on the street
An' I learned 'f how the people'd laugh
As they beat the gentle dogs t' death
Through a child's eyes who tried an' failed
T' hide one dog inside her house
An' I turned my head without a word
An' coldly stared out t' the road
An' with the wind hittin' half my face
My memory creeped as they highway rolled
Back if not but for a flash
T' the empty patch a grass that died
About the same time a dog was hid
An' that guilty feelin' sprang again
Not over the roots I'd pulled
But over she who saw the dogs get killed
An' I said it softly underneath my breath
"Yuh oughta listen t' her voice ...
Maybe somethin's in the sound ...
Ah but what could she care anyway
Kill them thoughts-they ain't no good
Only ugly's understood."
An' I stuck my head out in the wind
An' let the breeze blow the words
Outa my breath as a truck roared by
An' almost blew us off the road
An' at the time I had no song t' sing-

(full poem here )

oh yeah, who's your infidel!

Thanks so much, MR! I haven't seen that poem in many, many years.

That's interesting. It's not very clear, though, is it?

Pastorius said...

Sorry, that was cryptic. What is not clear is the reason the men stoned the dogs to death.

Pastorius,

You and me, may disagree on global warming, being caused at least in part by man, but I don't really see global warming as an argument for the elimination of Pet ownership. I can however tell you that there is another group of people who we can be certian are happy about this if they know about. I'm talking about people in the animal rights movement. Here's an article from a group called Purebredcats.org on the subject of animal rightists views on pets and pet ownership.

What Everyone Should Know about Animal Rights

So don't be surprised if animal rights activists start praising this Iranian cleric.

Pastorius said...

Thanks for that, Damien.

I just posted it. That is amazing stuff.

Did you see the post we had on Peter Singer a few days back?

The guy is one of the most highly respected Philosophers of our time, and he is a complete loon.

Damien said...

Pastorius,

Thanks,

I saw it, but I didn't read much into, though. However, he is an extremist, and many of his ideas I would never want to see implemented.

I personally find the fact that Mr. Singer is given so much respect to be disturbing. He has some very far out ideas. However, If one thinks about it, many of them are just what radical leftists ideas taken to their logical conclusion, others seem to be just misanthropy.

Pastorius said...

Yep.

That was my point.

The idea the beasts of the Earth (including man) consuming the food and resources provided by the Earth is a bad thing is, in my opinion, a radical idea. It is insane.

I know you and I don't agree on this, but in a few short years, my side will be proven to be right.

I say that based upon my knowledge of all the other lies perpetrated by "science" during the course of my lifetime.
