The move might be in connection to US self-inflicted embargo against Iran aimed at inspecting Iran bound ships for suspected goods related to the country’s nuclear program.A third world war? Between Iran and the US?
Tehran, June 20, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - There have been reports of more than a dozen US and Israeli warships passing through the Suez Canal on Friday and they are supposedly heading towards the Persian Gulf. The move might be in connection to US self-inflicted embargo against Iran aimed at inspecting Iran bound ships for suspected goods related to the country’s nuclear program.
Early this month a so-called UNSC resolution sought to impose sanction on Iran unless Tehran agreed to halt enrichments domestically. Tehran rejected the resolution saying it’s unjustified and promised to further speed up its already advanced nuclear program.
Reportedly the USS Harry Truman along with 12 other accompanying ships including at least one Israeli vessel passed through the Suez Canal as the Egyptian army made extra security measures for their safe passage. Thousands of Egyptian army troops lined up along both sides of the Suez Canal on the Red Sea coast to protect the flotilla. USS Harry Truman and its strike group carry 60 warplanes and 6000 troops.
Iran has promised to retaliate in kind if shipping lanes were to be disturbed in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Analysts warn the US bullying postures against Iran and an eventual military confrontation would lead to the start of Third World War.
Pfft.

That is a WILD AND CRAZY SITE....
read some more articles there ..whooooo...
Asia times on crack
Epa,
Here's pretty much the same info from Haaretz:
http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/report-u-s-israeli-warships-cross-suez-canal-toward-red-sea-1.297068
Look at the photo again:- From Hamsiyeh:
The Israeli ship is the big one !...
Crap !
I don't doubt that ships are headed there, but Israeli open ocean warships would certainly be at a premium.
To my knowledge only the SAAR class would be capable of such a voyage or mission (subs might be a very different story), and I don't think there are more than 3-5 in the entire Israeli navy.
If one was with the US fleet now, would this leave Israel with enough capability in the Med, remembering that in the US doctrine, you have half on station and half in refit on one sort or another.
Just speculating.
More from the HAARETZ story:"According to eyewitnesses, the U.S. battleships were the largest to have crossed the Canal in many years, Al-Quds reported"
We have ZERO battleships in the US navy. And AFAIK, the largest ships besides aircraft carriers we have are the Burke class destroyers, and Aegis class cruisers which are not THAT much larger.
If this has some basis in fact, and I think it does, the idea that the USA would have the IDF navy along is a strategically and wildy provocative act w/rgds to Iran
BRAVO if true.
We'd better watch out.
If'n we're not careful, the Iranian Navy will sick their speed boats on us.
From Haaretz:
More than twelve United States Naval warships and at least one Israeli ship crossed the Suez Canal towards the Red Sea on Friday, British Arabic Language newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported Saturday.
According to the report, thousands of Egyptian soldiers were deployed along the Suez Canal guarding the ships' passage, which included a U.S. aircraft carrier.
Best as I can tell, this is a true story.
And, if true, what is the purpose?
And, if true, then what does it say about Barack Obama?
One thing that few people note is, Obama has really decapitated the leadership of Al Qaeda in recent months, utilizing drone attacks in Pakistan. That's ballsy. Bush didn't do what Obama is doing.
I believe this story is basically true.
Maybe with all the other shit Obama can't deal with, the Iranians have finally torqued this narcissist off.
And more importantly in a wag the dog, but do right as well, move, he's decided about what his next political move is
Who would complain except the SOROS loons and the Buchanan right?
Hard for me to believe though
Yeah, I have a feeling nothing will come of it. However, it is provocative, as you noted.
You guys clearly illustrate the difference between right side anger and left side blind rage. On the right, if the subject of your anger suddenly does something right, logic and reason kick in and we are quick to adapt and show a little support and appreciation. By contrast, when the left sees behavior that logically ought to impress them, it simply infuriates them further since it violates their simplistic black and white conceptions of "good" and "evil". It's like - "How dare you actually do something right when I've already written you off as pure assholic evil!" or "ouch, stop it you prick, you're hurting my brain by violating my already fixed worldview.
Ann Coulter pinged it. The left are like irrational pouty littly children.
Anonymous,
The distinction you note might be why both Epa and I are lifelong registered Democrats who have come to be more associated with right-wing Conservatism since 9/11.
Personally, I was shocked to find that my leftie friends hated America so much that they would blame 9/11 on us ON THE DAY OF 9/11.
That experienced shocked and angered me, and made it so I want nothing to do with their line of reasoning. I've lost many of them as friends in the ensuing years.
Right wing conservatives drink better beer. And have better looking babes.
