Day job activities took me the 40 minutes to Bar Harbor today to small business. Maine voted, as a reminder OVERWHELMINGLY BLUE in 2008. While both senators Collins and Snowe are (R) many would say HA!
But the truth is that this is a place with an ornery independent streak. Several (I) gov's recently. Congressmen all blue.
So it was with interest in the president's trip here on Friday that I headed down to Mount Desert Island.
There are those who might look at Bar Harbor as the OTHER OTHER Maine. Lobster eating, A6 driving, Sotheby real estate, and art galleries. 5 Star restaurants open 3-5 months. A few open 11. Salmon smoking businesses in high fetter nearby for those afternoon crackers with Chevre, you know.
So today at an business investment firm it was with great interest that I listened without comment to the sceretaries, MBA's, CPA's, and lawyers in this VERY profitable small business DEAD CENTER where you want to park to be near the good stuff.
This is the elite (D) and the old money that shied away from (R) when Nelson Rockefeller died. Barry was too crude, you see, and they shrugged at Ron save a few (Caspar Weinberger lived here). Bush 41 was more to their liking. Bilderberg for those R's you know. One wonders if they cared to vote. But I bet they pay attention these days.
So Barry here it is for you. Every person there who cared to say how they voted, voted for you.
You are in deeper trouble than the tea partier's wettest dream.
These folks are pissed.
Sure they're pissed about the economy but these folks are working. It's far worse than that, for you, I'm afraid.
"What's he doing coming here for lobster when he and his kids should be eating shrimp in Louisiana?"
"Why is he taking ANY vacation?"
"How many vacations does he need?"
"We can't afford to go anywhere."
"If we had an oil disaster would he go to Samoa?"
In other words, it's YOU, President Obama. Your will, your attitude, your dedication have been found wanting by Mainers at a critical moment, and you're heading for these people.
And they want you to know they heard about the kids at the religious school where you'll be (and EVERYONE KNOWS where) being told NOT to approach you for any reason.
