Obama's 2004 Interview On Faith And Religion

(With a hat tip to Z!)

The interview, at Beliefnet is quite long. I noticed this statement by Obama toward the beginning of the interview:
I was raised more by my mother and my mother was Christian.
But over at WikiAnswers, we read the following:
According to the Audacity of Hope Barack Obama's mother was an atheist.
And over at this site, we read the following excerpt from The Audacity of Hope:
I was not raised in a religious household. For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness. However, in her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology.

On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well.
One more excerpt from the interview at Beliefnet, when Obama was asked "What is sin?":
Being out of alignment with my values.
Please read the entire 2004 interview at Beliefnet. There is much more to the interview.

He does behave according to his own values. We have to credit him for that.

I don't think Obama is a Muslim. He does not behave, quite, like a Muslim.

But, neither do I think he is a Christian.

He is a man who believes in fighting for those he considers oppressed. He believes Muslims are oppressed. And therefore, he spends a lot of time trying to help Muslims forward their interests.

He refuses to understand that those interests are dangerous. No Muslim ever tried to kill him, so Muslims aren't bad.

He believes Muslims are "third-world" types, and thus, they are not accountable for the things they do and say.

Therefore, he does not believe anything Muslims say, other than when they say they feel oppressed that he believes. But, he does not believe they mean it when they say they want to kill us because the Krayon tells them to do so.

I find BHO's definition of "sin" to be odd.

And why the inconsistencies about his mother's religious beliefs?

Pastorius said...

His definition of sin is the OPPOSITE of the Judeo-Christian idea of sin.

Thy will, NOT MINE, be done.

AOW, I'm glad you, too, saw that oddity in his definition of 'sin'...and that his mother is apparently an avowed atheist, but I think that someone like him would consider her Christian for the fact of her having been born to Christian parents. This is how a multicultural, "Christianity is ONE way to heaven, not the only way" Christian behaves...Liberation theology, etc...don't you?
Thanks for the ht!

Hi guys.
To me this "Man" lies the way he breathes. He has no concience or morals i doubt very much if he has any real religious inclinations, he's completely immoral. On how many occasions have we seen proof of him lying and often on the most simple things ,a person who lies about little things like that will for sure lie about more important matters.
