Iran placing ballistic missiles in Venezuela that can reach the US.
If any of you in the US still think Iran is only a threat to Israel and the Gulf countries, and therefore wonder why you should be at all concerned about it, perhaps this will change your mind: Iran is placing medium-range missiles that can reach the United States in Venezuela.
According to Die Welt, Venezuela has agreed to allow Iran to establish a military base manned by Iranian missile officers, soldiers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Venezuelan missile officers. In addition, Iran has given permission for the missiles to be used in case of an "emergency".
In return, the agreement states that Venezuela can use these facilities for "national needs" – radically increasing the threat to neighbors like Colombia. The German daily claims that according to the agreement, Iranian Shahab 3 (range 1300-1500 km), Scud-B (285-330 km) and Scud-C (300, 500 and 700 km) will be deployed in the proposed base. It says that Iran also pledged to help Venezuela in rocket technology expertise, including intensive training of officers.
And for those of you making the obvious comparison to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis....
Back in the 1962, thanks to the stern stance adopted by the then Kennedy administration, the crisis was defused.Nowadays, however, we do not see the same firmness from the present administration. On the contrary, we see a lax attitude, both in language and in deeds, that results in extending hands when our adversaries have no intention of shaking hands with us.
Iran is soon going to have a nuclear weapon, and there are no signs that UN sanctions will in any way deter the Ayatollah's regime from completing its nuclear program.

Il Presidente della Commissione Europea, Josè Manuel Durao Barroso, intervenuto a Tripoli al terzo Vertice Europa- Africa, ha affermato che la zona economica europea potrà allargarsi all'Africa nel 2050. “Siamo venuti a Tripoli con l'affascinante idea di creare a lungo termine una zona economica euro-africana che possa offrire delle nuove opportunità a 2,5 milioni di abitanti all'alba del 2050”, ha dichiarato Barroso nel suo discorso al Vertice, al quale hanno partecipato rappresentanti di 80 Paesi.
“La crisi economica e finanziaria non è ancora finita ma se Africa e Europa lavoreranno insieme potranno accelerare la crescita economica”, ha aggiunto. I lavori del Vertice si sono chiusi dopo aver affrontato altri temi caldi come l'immigrazione, i diritti umani e la creazione di posti di lavoro. ‘Pace e Sicurezza’, un altro argomento all'ordine del giorno del terzo incontro intergovernativo Europa-Africa di Tripoli, “sono fondamentali per la crescita economica - ha detto Barroso - e su questo l'Europa può fornire supporto in materia di prevenzione dei conflitti e gestione delle crisi”.
Sull'immigrazione, ultimo tema caldo del vertice, Barroso ha ribadito che l'unica politica in grado di risolvere il dramma dell'immigrazione illegale è “promuovere lo sviluppo dell'Africa” e, da parte europea anche quello di “impegnarsi con politiche comuni per far fronte a un problema che non è solo nazionale”. “Africa e Europa hanno ora un nuovo programma congiunto con una lista di priorità che segneranno il futuro delle nostre relazioni”, ha concluso Barroso prima di lasciare la sala della conferenza stampa finale diretto in aeroporto.

Oh goody, with a bit of luck all those who are too young to remember the Cuban Missle Crisis will be able to watch a Venezuelan re-run. Unfortunately, Ahmadhimmijerker is much crazier than Kruschev. (What I've heard is that the Castro brothers started babbling about nuking NYC, DC, Miami, etc., which was a major reason Kruschev folded his hand. The USSR did not care to have those crazies upsetting the M.A.D. balance.)
