In The Future, The Decaying Of The Human Body Will Be Viewed As An Error In The Evolution of DNA - Today, Lance Armstrong Was Stripped of His 7 Tour De France Titles

From Reuters:

(Reuters) - Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life on Monday after the International Cycling Union (UCI) ratified the United States Anti-Doping Agency's (USADA) sanctions against the American.
"Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling," UCI President Pat McQuaid told a news conference as he outlined how cycling would have to start again.
"The UCI wishes to begin that journey on that path forward today by confirming that it will not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and that it will recognize the sanction that USADA has imposed."

In the future, the decaying of the Human Body will come to be viewed as a Error of the Evolution of DNA.

Lance Armstrong and athletes like him are at the forefront of a movement that is only going to gain strength in the future.

What they

are doing today will be viewed as being similar to Cancer Patients administering themselves Chemotherapy, were Chemo Meds to be banned substances.

The "Performance-Enhancing Drugs" of today are, to be sure, crude in comparison to the precision Biogenetic Meds that will be developed to the specification of the individual in the future.

In this way, they are similar to Chemotherapy, which is just a shotgun blast of poison that happens to kill Cancer quicker than it kills the rest of the human body.

As Performance Enhancing Medication improve in the future, Lance Armstrong will come to be viewed as a kind of pioneer and martyr for the cause.

This is not meant as an endorsement of the criminal aspects of his behavior (intimidating witnesses, and drug-running across borders). Instead, it is meant to recognize that times are changing and law and the rule of sport are lagging behind, which causes those who do understand the changes to, sometimes, resort to criminal behavior.

Lance Armstrong was ringleader of biggest doping conspiracy in sporting history, say USADA
Lance Armstrong’s legacy as cancer survivor turned seven-time winner of the Tour de France is in ruins after he was accused of drug-taking on a massive scale, and being the ringleader of the most sophisticated doping conspiracy in sporting history.

I really haven't paid much attention to this beyond headlines, but as a survivor of testicular cancer(and a VERY NASTY BRAND OF STAGE IV) which had spread to lungs, wouldn't Armstrong HAVE to take testosterone, and other androgens (ALL PED's)?
If so wouldn't that mean ANYONE stricken with this disease would never be able to be in professional sports again?

Apparently, the issue is whether the man is left with one or two testicles:

Pastorius said...

According to Wiki, Lance Armstrong still has one testicle:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Armstrong

this would mean he doesn't not need ongoing testosterone treatment.

My opinion on this is, most men and women would do well to have some hormone replacement therapy as they get older.

i think that, in the future, this kind of therapy will be normal.

I take a Amino Acid called Arginine which boosts Testosterone. I do this as part of my weight-training regimen. Arginine allows me to lift more and life longer. It also allows me to run faster and longer.

It also makes me feel like I'm 23 again, if you know what I mean.

But, it is an Amino Acid. It is not a drug, It is merely a part of a complete protein.

Isn't the decaying of the human body already considered an error? I might be wrong on this but I think the scientists say that they have basically figured out what "aging" is and its accumulation of errors.

I think it will and should happen very soon that drugs that will help to reverse "aging" will be mass produced.

I do think that we will see a lot of counter arguments saying how this is oh so not natural!

But I gotta say, the day they come out with something that will either slow down, reverse and/or get rid of aging (basically giving us the chance to live 200, 300 or a thousand years--I know its far fetched but can't a 27 year old dream!!!!!!!!) I will jump the queue, grab the drug and take it right away!

When that happens will Lance Armstrong be considered a pioneer? Not sure. The media has a weird way of feeding people opinions these days.

Nico,
You're right. Scientists have already proven that aging is an error.

They are learning how to stop the process.

We have cells in our body (stem cells) which reproduce without degrading.

If we could flip the DNA switch in all our cells, none of them would reproduce in a degrading fashion, and we would not age.

And, you're right, the media feeds people the cheap moral stories they long to hear.

It's bullshit.

There is nothing wrong with Genetically Modified Food, and there is nothing wrong with Genetically Modified Human Beings.

Nor is there anything wrong with a athlete using supplement to attempt to repair his body quicker so that he can perform at an optimal level.

Few people know that building muscle is actually a process of tearing down the muscle and repairing it repeatedly.

So, introducing hormonal supplements merely helps the body repair itself quicker so that it can WORK OUT MORE, so that the athlete can increase his speed and power.

That's all.

it is not like taking amphetimines which spaz a person out. It is instead, helping the human body go through it's natural repair processes quicker.

Pasto,

Agree. 100%

Since we're talking about science and evolution, just read and heard this:

Its awesome.

A lot of the research I did was on apoptosis, the auto-suicide of (in this case)cardiac muscle cells ..myocytes.

A lot of the problem I have with PED's for COMPETITIVE athletes centers on the amount taken and the permanent damage it caused. Some athletes took so much and then excelled to such a degree they destroyed the LENGTH of otherwise certain hall of fame careers, thus proving it was unhealthy in a gross measurement manner.

If you don't want to take PED's such as steroids in damaging amounts and you don't compete as well aren't we establishing an unhealthy pressure with huge penalties either monetary or health wise?

Jason Giambi vs Derek Jeter.

Maybe Giambi would only have averaged .285/35/100 but over 17-22 years instead of .320/48/140 for 5-8?
Meanwhile Jeter leads all baseball in hits at age 38 and had one of, if not his best year(s).

Epaminondas said...

And Giambi hasn't been able to catch up to a fastball in 5-7 years, at a much younger age

Pastorius said...

I think part of the problem is since PED's are frowned upon, the people who take them for sports do not have the best healthcare. It is a kind of underground healthcare, and that kind of environment fosters unhealthy, out-of-balance treatment.

I also think we simply are not advanced enough to understand the thresholds.

It would seem to me that rather than spending energy on nay-saying, we ought to simply get in gear with coming to understand what helps and what does not.

And, we need to feel comfortable with the fact that, as with any risky endeavor, we are going to make some mistakes along the way.

After all, this is an endeavor with HUGH PAYOFF DOWN THE ROAD, right?

Pastorius said...

Giambi was a casualty, Jeter is a success.

Bonds was a success.

Lance Armstrong is a success.

Hell, maybe Nolan Ryan is a PED success story, right?

We admire extreme sports people for taking their lives in their hands, pushing the limits.

Why do we not admire traditional sports guys when they do the same thing?

Epaminondas said...

If Jeter is using PED's we'll need a new league, that's my point.

Wasn't it Methusula ( sp) who lived 900 years according to the Bible-

My take has always been that the body was designed by the Creator to heal itself and re- establish itself-
I'm glad to know that there are hormonic drugs that will help--

As to Armstrong- my take- there are those who are jealous of his achievements and were out to 'get him' --

My opinion, Epa, is he is indeed using PED's.

that's why he has had this renaissance, imntbho.

CS,
I agree.

It seems pretty clear to me that human beings were not created with instincts that arise from Evolution.

Our instincts are the instincts of beings who are created not for pain, not for death, but to thrive, and create, and live fully.

It's an esoteric sounding belief. But, I'll discuss it further if anyone else wants to do so.

Let's discuss it-

My take--the evidence is that we were created to live forever - with self regenerating systems- that is what the the Creator originally intended---
