Is there a moral hazard now in watching the NFL?

This morning the latest indication there is something BASICALLY wrong with the NFL has made itself apparent.

My love for the NFL began in an unlikely moment. The 35-0 destruction of the NY Giants (I liveed on LI at that moment) by Vince Lombardi and Vic Scott uttering ‘TOUCHDOWN, GREEN BAY’ each time that brick with legs Jim Taylor crossed the line and just DROPPED the ball.

Since the 1969 defeat of the HATED COLTS (nearly all of my college fraternity was from Baltimore, and there were 3 of us from the Shea stadium and east environs) I have paid attention every Sunday, and Monday and most Thursdays, and every Saturday (late in the season).

And the day the Pats beat the Rams …ooooohhhh. Bill for prez!!!

But now…
Jovan Belcher, Aaron Hernandez, Ray Rice and the league’s seeming rule that SLUGGING a woman is only 1/2 as egregious as smoking weed, and this morning, Adrian Peterson really marked up his child and is facing felony charges FROM A GRAND JURY.

How many other stories have been written about out of control behavior?

Romanowski anyone?

By watching, and therefore paying for the commercials revenue, going to TV, and the owners and then the pockets of these CRIMINALS WE, EACH OF US are rewarding these asshole, murdering, wife beating, child abusers.
EACH OF US is facing a moral hazard.

Maybe we should be skipping this Sunday, or next, or see our ardor for this sport diminished by the type of player on the field. I don’t want to hear this is a ‘tiny minority of extremists’ excuse.

If the players among themselves cannot solve this on the field and in the clubhouse, if the owners in FIRING INSTANTLY those responsible for reprehensible behavior which reflects on their BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY fail, then the public who supports the game must take responsibility.

Maybe this weekend, next weekend, whenever, GO OUTSIDE, spend a few more hours with the wife and or kids, and go to a concert. Clean the yard. Make a bench. Be a Tim Taylor, or Mr Rogers a couple of more hours. READ A BOOK IN A PARK. Take a hike with the family or friends.

I have a feeling the TV NETWORKS facing a sudden drop in ratings will then be the ones to ENFORCE by contract amount the next step. Reduced TV revenue to the owners, who will CUT OFF those the coaches know have a problem.
And how will the teammates of those facing reduced earnings feel about their talented criminal fellows?

HOW DO THEY FEEL?

But make no mistake, right now it looks like it is coming down to the public.

We are that jury. And the remote is our verdict maker
