Multiple people reportedly dead at Oregon community college
DEVELOPING -- Local authorities and media are reporting at least seven people are dead -- with reports of up to 15 -- in a shooting Thursday at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. SWAT teams reportedly are moving building-to-building, but the Douglas County sheriff is telling Fox News that there no longer is an active threat.
Authorities told Fox News they responded to a report of a shooting Thursday at around 10:38 a.m. local time.
The incident sparked a flurry of unconfirmed reports with varying numbers of dead and injured. A Douglas County Board Assistant said preliminary reports indicated at least 15 people are dead, according to Reuters. Oregon State Police Lt. Bill Fugate tells KATU-TV at least seven are dead and 20 are injured. Authorities confirmed multiple casualties to The Associated Press and the local fire district also tweeted that there were "multiple casualties" but did not elaborate.
A Douglas County Sheriff's Dept. spokesperson said multiple assets were on site and EMS was on the scene. The ATF said on Twitter that it had special agents on the scene.
A photographer for the Roseburg News-Review newspaper said he saw people being loaded into multiple ambulances and taken to the local hospital.
Students are running everywhere. Holy God.
Roseburg is a city of about 22,000 people located about 70 miles south of Eugene and about 180 miles south of Portland.
Umpqua Community College has about 3,000 students. Its website was down Thursday, and a phone message left at the school wasn't immediately returned.
"Today's shooting in Roseburg is a heartbreaking tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families," Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-OR, said in a statement. "I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Roseburg's first responders for their work in responding to the event. Once we know more about what happened today, I plan to work with my colleagues in Congress to find ways to prevent tragedies such as these."
The rural town of Roseburg lies west of the Cascade Mountains. The timber industry has struggled there, and authorities in recent years have tried to promote the area as a tourist destination for wine growing and outdoor activities.
"It's extremely concerning and sad," said Endi Hartigan, spokeswoman for the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission.

I heard a talk radio guy saying this is the 48th school shooting of the year.
I think someone needs to do a serious study on the politics of all the individual shooters.
My guess, 95% of them identify themselves as being Liberal/Left/Democrat/Socialist.
I would not be surprised if it was 100%.
