From AFP:
A veil – or mantilla as it is also known – is traditionally worn by women as a sign of respect when meeting the Pope.
This is an unexpected move from the Trump women considering they did not wear a headscarf once during their time in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.
Despite the Muslim custom for women to wear a hijab in public, Melania and Ivanka kept their heads scarf-free.Sometimes you don't realize you've been slapped in the face, until days later.
Right, KSA?

The veil is a sign of respect.
The hijab one of submission.
Well, this is true. I may be being squishy, but I think a non-Muslim woman could wear the Hijab to an event as a sign of respect to Islam, without it being submission.
On the other hand, I would see it as a form of ideological submission.
It's like that Bible verse about not eating food sacrificed to idols. You can do it because you are under the protection of God's power. However, the verse says one shouldn't do it if it will cause others to stumble:
4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that “There is no God but one.” 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
I agree with Pasto. It was a massive slap in the face, both to the ideology, and the Saudis.
22Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.
25Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.
27If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:
Right, MR. I agree. It was right for Melania, as a Christian, and Ivanka, as an Orthodox Jew, to refuse to wear the Hijab, as an example of NOT SACRIFICING THEMSELVES TO THE IDOL NAMED ALLAH, in order to stand as an example to those who are weaker in their faith in the God of the Bible.
EXACTLY!!! And of course because it forced the Saudis to acquiese to them :-)
