Pakistan blocks all Google Blogs - That Damn Disrespect Problem with Islam

The BBC had an interesting article today. Pakistan is blocking all Google blog sites to prevent any Paks accessing mo cartoons or mocking articles about Islam.

Instructions were issued to internet service providers across Pakistan on 27 February to block about a dozen websites of various origins. [Yeah, that'll work.]

....

Bloggers in Pakistan became first became aware of the ban on 28 February when they were unable to access a popular blog hosting site, Blogspot.

One of the blocked sites is hosted on Blogspot, which led to the blocking of all web journals hosted on the site.

....

The BBC's Aamer Ahmed Khan in Karachi says the blocking is unlikely to turn into a major freedom of expression issue in Pakistan as there seems to be a consensus against allowing such freedom to extend to irreverent treatment of religious figures.

Pakistani bloggers agree the blocking of Blogspot cannot be intentional, but are hoping the authorities realise the problem soon and rectify it, he said.

There are many ways of blocking specific sites without letting it affect the entire hosting facility, bloggers say.

Pakistan, meanwhile, is seeking an internationally applicable law against blasphemy.

Does the same restriction apply to truthful blogs about Mo?

Hmmm. . . I don't imagine that this is part of Bush's conversation with Musharraf (sp?). . .

One wonders what site on blogspot they was trying to block. This one would be an obvious candidate!

Seems like the Jihad might be starting.
You cant have a holy war, without laws against blasphemy or it really isnt
a holy war if no one gives a sh*****t and isnt spiritually committed on the opposite side.

So, how do you do bring atheists, agnostics and moderate christians into a holy war if they arent as zealous?
Accuse them of blasphemy against YOUR religion, god etc of course.

Good footwork on their part. Too bad most can see it though.
