Dhimmi Watch is out too. Has this ever happened with that sort of message left before?

Just checked them: Dhimmi Watch is out; Jihad Watch opens up as an FTP site.

9:50 pm EST, both are back up, with comments about the hack on Jihad Watch.

But the dates are all in April...

10:48pm - both sites are up. Maybe the server was down, killing both sites.

More than likely DDOS attack on their server sending them offer their alloted bandwidth.

I'm sure we'll get the story this AM (where it seesm 10/11 is the last article - signs of a DB restore???), but what we were looking at last night was a directory display of the root directory of Robert Spencer's site, that is why it looked like an ftp site. There was no displayable page.

More only on archive directory was present, and it was COMPLETELY exposed. The ability to SEE a directory is by default ...NO WAY. I didn't try to upload a file, but it might have been interesting, since it appeared that permissions had been attacked.

This is either a vanilla type failure of the server or a very sweet attack, and no DDOS which would simply tell you page not found, or server busy, try later.
