Did Le Pen ever get oil-for-food kickbacks from Saddam?

The UN's oil-for-food scandal, which included quite a few people who weren't directly connected to or employed by them, such as the loathsome George Galloway, hasn't been discussed so much lately, even though Galloway himself was cited as going to stand trial for his own involvement recently. But it still needs to be discussed, including the possibility that Jean-MarieDhimmi Le Pen, who visited Iraq in a solidarity visit to Saddam, may have been involved.

I couldn't find any articles that bring up the question, but I did find a cached page from the India Tribune that has both subjects on it. No connection made here, yet for me, it did seem to suggest something.

Personally, I think there is certainly a possibility that Le Pen may have taken money from Saddam during his visit to Iraq shortly before the invasion to topple the dictator in 2002. Just how to prompt an investigation is the real challenge.

While we're on the subject, well well well, what have we here: NRO's The Corner finds more news confirming Le Pen's Front National giving up its opposition to Muslim immigration. From the UPI:
In France, Jean-Marie Le Pen's far right National Front appears to have opted for a can't-lick-'em-join-'em strategy, a rapprochement with France's large immigrant Muslim community -- with undertones of anti-Semitism. Le Pen's reasoning appears to be the recognition that Islamicization is in France to stay with 25 percent of France's under 20 population Muslim (40 percent in some cities), 2nd and 3rd generation North Africans. FN's tough stance on immigration is tempered by support for Arab and Islamist causes in the Middle East (Hamas and Hezbollah are two favorites). There are an estimated 6 to 8 million Muslims among France's 62 million and Islam is now France's second religion. Mosques are well attended on Fridays; churches aren't on Sundays. France's prison inmates are over 50 percent Muslim

Le Pen's strategic advisers argue the FN must drop its founding mythology and forget about the once popular image of a modern Joan of Arc resisting the invasion of Muslim hordes. Americans and Jews are the new targets. But the party's Christian right-wingers do not agree and are defecting in large numbers. The Islamist threat is their main concern and they are finding a new political home in MPF, Mouvement Pour la France, which is anti-European Union and anti-Muslim, and given only 7 percent of registered voters in a recent poll. Le Pen's followers have dropped back from 11 percent to 9 percent.
It's good if Le Pen's support base is finally dwindling, as people realize that he's not what he claims to be. Let me add that in Britain, people may want to keep an eye on the BNP, since they too could be two-faced. Read the rest of the article to see how the intifada and attacks on Jews are rising in France now too.

It's most definitely possible that the riots from last year will be returning again, and if Chirac is smart, he'll allow the authorities to fight back full force. The army is what's needed here (but leave behind any members who are Muslim), and Chirac and his defense minister are the ones whose court the ball is in on that matter.

They ended?

Great post, Avi.

I suspect both the BNP and the Vlaams Belang will end up siding with the Muslims and against the Jews. That is how racists always do it.

pastorius,

you're bumming me out, because you are probably right. why are us jews always to be hated--even to the point of suicide? one would hope for the best on the far-right: that they are actually motivated to preserve their nationalities. LePen's existance blows even that excuse away.

Demosthenes,
Dennis Prager has a book called "Why The Jews?" which asks the question you are asking. He tries to give an answer. His answer seems somewhat reasonable. But, the thing is, the hatred of Jews doesn't seem reasonable to me, so Prager's answer seems to fall short.

Hitler was so obsessed with Jews that he believed if he could just kill them all, then all the other problems of Europe would just fall away.

That seems a rather diabolical hatred to me. I believe it's origins are in something other than reason.

By the way, sorry to bum you out, Demosthenes. It bums me out too, and I'm not Jewish.

I see no links to statements made by Front Nacional or Le Pen. All the statements that Avi dug up contain "appears".

From this you chaps deduce not only that Le Pen is siding with the Muslims, but also that he is an antisemite. Then you pitifully whinge about Anti-Semitism. And throw the BNP and Vlaams Belang, the few voices of opposition in their respective countries against the Multicul and Islam, in the same lot. Then you whinge some more.

Absolutely pathetic.

I will grant that there is reason to be somewhat suspicious of Le Pen. As far as VB and BNP are concerned they are fully on the side of their own people and reasonable allies, such as the Jews.

From my own experience I can say that Jews in The Netherlands and Flanders have been firmly on the side of the Left and Multiculturalism decrying any opposition to immigration as racism and Nazism. They are now belatedly recognizing the enormity of their mistake.

I admire the gritty self-determination of the Israelis in building up and defending a society in a hostile setting.

The utter inability of Jews outside Israel to recognise who their foes and allies are is unsettling.

Let's not forget what the facts are. In the USA too, Jews are MASSIVELY supporting the suicidal Democrats, as evidenced in a piece written by Pamela today.

To quote a cliche: "with such friends, one hardly requires enemies".

Come on chaps, clean the dung out of you eyes and look around you. There certainly are still Nazis and anti-semites about and that will probably not change ever. But in Western societies the danger is firmly on the Left.

Snouck,
You make a good point that Avi provides no links. Thanks.

However, my friend, please remember that you and I are on the same side. I am certainly not trying to make an enemy of you.

It is pretty hard not to come to the conclusion that the BNP is a racist organization when they have had an advertisement for the little Nazi twin singers Prussian Blue prominently displayed on their home page for the past several weeks. I understand the motivation that drives many Europeans to a party like the BNP. There is no other party standing up to the Islamification of European culture. I understand.

But, the problem is, if you elect the BNP, then you will have a party who are in bed with racists. That will put you in bed with racists.

As for Le Pen, I tend to believe the ADL on this, but you tell me if you think they are wrong. Here is a link:
