Storm Track Infiltration: Malaysian Muslims March Towards Islamism

“If the camel gets his nose into the tent, the whole body will follow.”
– An Old Arab Proverb.

Along with Turkey, Malaysia has been looked upon as an example of a moderate Muslim state. But that is changing and the secular vision of Malaysia is being faced with the ‘writing on the wall’. I’ve written about the threat of Islamism to Malaysia’s secular society before - now more proof of the countries endangered future.

Malaysia is a moderate and generally tolerant country. It does not persecute its religious minorities, and it has developed successfully economically so that it can just about be considered a middle-class society. Certainly it is vastly more successful and wealthy than it was 20 years ago. If there's a Muslim population anywhere that should feel happy and content it is in Malaysia. Successful, increasingly rich, Islam afforded a special status in the constitution, Malays given substantial financial, educational, housing and other preferences, persecuted by no one, they should be among the least paranoid people in the Muslim world.

But the results of a new poll of Malaysian Muslims say otherwise. Here are the highlights.

The next time anyone claims that Malaysia is a model muslim country, be sure to leave your address and I'll personally go to beat your head in with a shovel, even if I have to cross a continent or an ocean to do so.

It does not persecute its religious minorities,

This is pure ignorance. There is an unofficial policy to deny approvals for the building of new churches. While mosKKKs are sprouting like mushrooms all over the country, applications for erecting churches are often purposely mislaid, delayed, or ignored. Lately, many historic Chinese and Hindu temples dating back to pre-independence times have been forcibly demolished on the pretext that they did not have approval at the time they were built, even though the law governing such approvals was not in place until much later. and it has developed successfully economically so that it can just about be considered a middle-class society.

The Malaysian economy has failed to be competitive ever since the Asian economic meltdown ten years ago and has stagnated lately as a result of China's sucking in all the low-cost manufacturing activities. Right now, Malaysia is living on borrowed time.

Certainly it is vastly more successful and wealthy than it was 20 years ago.

That would be the impression if you look at the per capita income. However, the reality is that a small group of fat cats is getting much richer from all the pork-barrelling that is going on while the vast majority are having a much harder time making ends meet than ever before.
