All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

Storm Track Disinformation: The Fallacy of Islam Equivalency
How many times have you heard this from your leftist friends when speaking about the barbarism of radical Islam?
“Oh yeah, what about the Inquisition? What about the Ku Klux Klan. What about Timothy McVeigh? What about radical Christians who blow up abortion clinics? Huh? What about them? Huh?”
So how do you respond to such moral equivalency pap as that?
OK, as the token atheist pro-choice female around here I realize my perspective is perhaps a bit skewed. Nevertheless, I'll begin with the quantitative approach: 1. The (Spanish) Inquisition officially ended 173 years ago; 2. The KKK is, at this point, about as dead as the (Spanish) Inquisition; 3. Evidence indicates that McVeigh and Nichols had Islamist assistance in their bomb plot, so they're not off the hook; and 4. The misogynist aholes who blow up abortion clinics do not number in the billions and do not have access to atomic weaponry. The Islamists, who are misogynistic and tyrannical towards women beyond the wildest dreams of said ahole clinic-bombers, do number in the billions and those who don't now have access to atomic weaponry soon will, therefore I believe I will concern myself with them first.
Allowing for variations according to one's own moral hierachy, political views, etc., this is really about all these moral equivalency baiters deserve by way of reply. Their motives have nothing to do with assigning degrees of evil except to place Western Civilization at the top and enable them to evade the necessity of confronting the nature, intent, and demographics of radical Islam. Their "arguments" are not invitations to evaluate various forms of evil; they are the equivalent of schoolyard taunts and should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
I have a date with the rest of my Z-pak and Robitussin but first, vis-a-vis the ongoing discussion of how to deal with racist, fascistic, and other undesirable "allies", may I recommend Ben Johnson's masterful shellacing of Patrick Buchanan's latest waste of bookstore shelf space, "Day of Reckoning", a.k.a. "Day of Rubbish" over on www.frontpagemag.com/ . I thought it might be impossible to upstage Dinesh d'Souza, but Pat's older and has more experience at this sort of thing. Enjoy.
RRA, I've read the Ben Johnson article. It is amazing. It also has a lot to say about the current rift in the blogosphere. Gates of Vienna, and those who side with them, are making many of the same arguments that Pat does in his book.
One is that Islamic cruelty is dictated very clearly by the Quran and Hadith, especially the Quran. Islam is said to be a guide to life almost more than a religion by its adherents. Furthermore, that guide can not be questioned (as dictated by the Quran)
Second is that there is no acceptable "liberal Islam" unlike "liberal Christianity" and "liberal Judaism" because the Quran is not considered to be "inspired" by Allah, but is considered to be Allah's direct words. There can be no additional filter on the text as some Jews and Christians have put on their texts. It must be accepted in full.
Now put those two differences together, and it is understandable why Muslims commit violence against unbelievers and even believing women in the name of Islam:
8:12 When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
(all those beheadings make sense now, huh?)
4:34 Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.
