EU TO IRELAND: WE'RE GOING TO IGNORE THE DEMOCRATIC REFERENDUM "FOR YOUR OWN GOOD"

The European Union is intent on forcibly sodomizing the people of Europe.

From Reliapundit at the Astute Bloggers:

NZHERALD: Leaders not taking 'no' for answer

BRUSSELS - Germany and France moved to isolate Ireland in the European
Union yesterday, scrambling for ways to resuscitate the Lisbon Treaty a day
after the Irish dealt the architects of the EU's new regime a crushing
blow.

Refusing to take Ireland's "no" for an answer, leading politicians in
Berlin and Paris prepared for a crucial EU summit in Brussels this week by
trying to ringfence the Irish, while demanding that the reform treaty be
ratified by the rest of the EU.

The scene is now set for a major clash between the Irish and their European
partners after a Dublin minister and sources in the ruling Fianna Fail Party
ruled out any chance of a second Irish referendum on the treaty....

The manner of coping with the Irish rebuff is more likely to deepen the
EU's democracy and legitimacy problems.

BBC:

EU foreign ministers have agreed to keep the Lisbon reform treaty alive
despite its rejection by Irish voters.

The ministers said those EU members who have not yet ratified the treaty
should carry on and do so.

The ministers have been meeting in Luxembourg ahead of a two-day summit in
Brussels, starting on Thursday, that is expected to chart the way ahead.

The treaty cannot be implemented unless approved by all 27 EU states. Only
the Irish Republic has held a referendum.

THE EU IS EXPOSING ITSELF, LETTING THE MASK SLIP: IT IS FUNDAMENTALLY ANTI-DEMOCRATIC.

THE IRISH HAVE KILLED THE EUSSR AND SAVED DEMOCRACY IN EUROPE

- UNLESS THE TRANSNATIONAL BUREAUCRATS TRY AGAIN, AS THESE STORIES SEEM TO INDICATE.

Pastorius,

Your right the EU is proving itself to be a bunch of anti democratic socialist leftist. They may be liberals, but they are not the classical kind. Thomas Jefferson would think that the people who call themselves liberals today are giving it a bad name.

By the way, what was the official purpose of Lisbon Treaty anyway?

Damien,
There's no simple answer for that really. Wikipedia is helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Lisbon

If I wanted to answer it concisely, recognizing the fact that that is impossible, I would say the Treaty of Lisbon is a restatement of the EU "Constitution" which was voted down by France and Denmark a year back.

Basically, the EU just keeps changing small details and retrying to force it down the throats of the people of Europe.

Wikipedia has a photograph of the Treaty of Lisbon on their site. Note it is larger than a Bible. That's the EU Constitution for you.

It has nothing in common with the simplicity of the American Constitution.

Thank you Pastorius,
I will now post a direct link so people can see it better.
Lison_Treaty

Basically what I got out of it was that it is an attempt to turn all of Europe into one big country.
I am glad the Irish opposed it. It would have been better if this EU idea never became mainstream enough to stand a chance. Maybe than they could do a better Job of fighting off the Islam-o-Fascist invasion.

While I do think that maybe our founders should have been a bit more clear at times, having a constitution larger than the Bible is ridiculous. Due to its size alone, that thing is bound to be laden with contradicts that its authors aren't even aware of.

The EU began as the European Common Market, which was more of a series of trade agreements than a country.

I don't think the EU has decided whether it is a trade organization or a nation.

Blimey! This Canadian is switching from tasty Norwegian *new-toon beer* to Irish *F the EU brew* before another day passes!

Isn't Irish beer the best anyway. Guiness is so good I can't drink it, because if I did, that's all I'd do.
