Farewell Israel

I just watched the video, Farewell Israel: Bush, Iran, and The Revolt of Islam, and a few minutes ago I was writing an article about it for CitizenWarrior.com. The point I was making is how difficult, how frustrating it was to watch Israeli and American leaders be so gullible, so ignorant, so fucking STUPID, making peace agreements with Jihadis and believing they were accomplishing something.

I wanted to reach into my TV and grab these guys by the collar and really get it through their heads what they're dealing with. The relentlessness. The one-sidedness. The cold-bloodedness.

It reminded me of the scene from the first terminator movie where Kyle (the dude from the future) was trying to make Sarah understand what a terminator really is. She was refusing to get it. Didn't want to get it. Does this sound familiar?

Kyle finally grabs her wrists and yells at her: "Listen! That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear, and it absolutely WILL NOT STOP. Ever! Until you are DEAD!"

I remember another part of the movie when he tells the psychiatrist, "You still don't get it, do you? He'll find her! That's what he does! It's ALL he does! You can't stop him! " This also reminds me of Jihadis. Their whole life is about gaining ground for Islam. That's what they do. That's ALL they do.

I hope this thread triggers a renewed interest in this important film. "Farewell Israel" provides valuable archived film footage that would be useful to extract and post here at IBA, JW/DW and at each of IBA's individual contributing blogs.

Having purchased several copies of this film to share with friends and bloggers and commenting about it's value at a variety of blogs over several months, it is frustrating to see how little attention it has garnered.

Caught totally unprepared to view historic events through the prism of Islam's justification for jihad - my initial response to the first viewing was unadulterated RAGE and of utter betrayal.

Such distortion reflects on Islam's glory days and imagined Islamic scientific & philosophical achievements without any credit being given to the vanquished from whom these achievements became possible.

I frequently quote from the film and this is a particularly useful segment:

Here I provide a partial (unofficial) transcript from the DVD "Farewell Israel" from the opening segment, titled, "Western Misconceptions of Islam" :

From the inception of Islam, the Christian West has had difficulty understanding Islam as a different religious phenomenon than Christianity. When Muslims conquered the Iberian Peninsula in the eighth century, Christians referred to Muslims arriving from North Africa as "Moors". Over the centuries, Spaniards continued to refer to Muslims as "Moors", even if they were from India or Indonesia. In the rest of Europe, Muslims were referred to as "Turks". In Asia Minor, Christians referred to Muslims as "Tartars", an ethnic name. When Europeans finally understood that Islam was not an ethnic group, they mistakenly perceived it in terms of a western 'religious' group. In the early 1900's, Europeans began referring to Islam as "Mohammadism" and Muslims as "Mohammadans", incorrectly assuming the Prophet "Mohammad" had the same role in Islam that Jesus did in Christianity. To this day, misunderstandings continue. Westerners describe the mosque as a Muslim church, equate the Muslim Friday to the Christian Sunday, refer to the Qur'an as the Muslim Bible, and believe Sheiks to be Muslim Priests."

snip
The next segment is titled "Freedom, Justice and Peace"

"So different are Western and Muslim world views that identical words can have two different meanings."

The film demonstrates through archived video, the use of common terminology and it's conflicting interpretations.

"In the West, "freedom" is the ability of individuals to participate in the formation, conduct and lawful removal of governments from power, the basis of Constitutionalism and Parliamentary government. For the Islamic world ruled by foreign powers in modern times, 'freedom' meant 'national independence' from 'foreign rule' which they equated with 'tyranny'.
In the West, the opposite of 'tyrrany' is 'Freedom'.
In Islam, the opposite of 'tyranny' is 'justice'. For Muslim thinkers, 'justice' is the ideal.

snip
The film continues with archived footage, further demonstrating this crucial dichotomy.

"As for the word "Peace", Westerners have liberal and romantic images of harmony between groups and nations. In Arabic, the modern definition of "Salam" simply means an "absence of conflict" as in the word "truce" in English. The Arabic word "Sul-ha" defined as "reconciliation" is much closer to the Western definition of "Peace". For example, the Arab-Israeli conflict was in a state of 'Salam' between the years of 1956-1967 from a Muslim point of view, yet there was no peace from a Western point of view."

I highly recommend this video and hope that it becomes available online soon. If not the entire film, individual chapters or segments of chapters would be very useful.

HRW embraces CW's effort to highlight this video. Thank you!
