According to NPR, the Rocky Mountains contain three times the oil of Saudi Arabia.
An oil field was just recently discovered in the South Dakota/Montana region which has three times as much oil as the Rockies.
There is also a tremendous amount of oil in the ANWR region.
All that oil, and we don't drill for it.
Why?
Because of pressure from environmentalists.
We could be winning the battle for energy independence, but instead, we choose to lose, and thus forfeit our profits into the hands of Jihadists and Communists the world over.
I repeat, we are losing because we choose to lose, and we do so, primarily because of pressure from environmentalist groups.
That's like a football team choosing to lose because of pressure from their own cheerleaders.

Wow, that's nine times the oil of Saudi Arabia. Truly impressive.
The question is, can it be extracted cheaply?
Good point, Anonymous.
I read of a new technique by Shell to extract oil from shale at about $30 per barrel.

Problem is, environmentalists will not allow such a technique in the Rockies.
This is in fact the primary cause of our problems, or the premier manifestation of our root spiritual sickness. 'My people perish for lack of knowledge'; absolutely inexplicable(in the natural) stupidity as the USA reels like a drunken, drugged giant ready to fall.
Yes, but they mean well.
The problem you see is HUMANS. We all want stuff. And that is bad. SO if fewer of us wanted stuff, all would be well.
What we need is a big fat war and then these gavones terrified of a scar on gaia made by horrible humans wanting stuff would be happy because rather than wanting stuff we'd be looking for FREAKING FLINT to start fires in our naturally roofed hovels
Epa,
Yes, it would be better if we all lived in caves again. That way, we wouldn't be destroying the environment. The environment would be destroying us.
