Israel warns southern cities to prepare for strikes by new 30-km range rockets

TEL AVIV -- The Israel Army has warned of residents of several cities they may now be within range of Palestinian missile strikes. The army has obtained evidence that the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip has acquired and prepared missiles and rockets with a range of 30 kilometers.On Dec. 8, the army distributed leaflets in the Israeli city of Ashdod, about 25 kilometers north of the Gaza Strip. The leaflets said Ashdod, which contains a naval port, could become the next target of Hamas-aligned missile and rocket attacks.

I am trying to figure out what sort of riots, tar and feathering and protests would be going in if the govt of the USA announced it could not protect, oh say, Laredo, Texas from Mexico, or Portland, Maine from Canada, cities of roughly the same size as Ashdod.

The first responsibility of any govt is to protect its citizen from physical harm of foreign origin. If they cannot do that, then they are not a government at all.

Laredo would probably see a riot involving expulsion of federal authorities, and then an invasion by the people of Laredo of the adjacent area of Mexico, following by a laying waste of anything there.

Are we keeping the Israelis from taking such action, or have they lost what made them who they are?
