And then, just when you think common sense has left the nation

Okay, it's March in Maine and 10 days ago we had another foot of snow, but up here on the lake, ice out is usually some time between March 20th and April 15th.

One of our neighbors is expanding their house on one the islands and hired a crew to get the materials out there, as well as do the work.

Now these ice road truckers were out there bright and early when it was still about 15 degrees, but in that spot on sunday I went right thru about 8 inches of slushy ice to the bottom, 3 feet down. I warned them about this.

So today at 2:45 these guys were on their way back ...and ...

With each minute the ice gets softer and they sink a little more especially since what is actually supporting the truck is the nice warm engine which rests in about 3 inches of water on that ice. Since I took that picture, the center of the wheels are no longer visible.

Apparently they are among many who think the laws of nature just don't apply to them when the negative results are too awful to contemplate.
