The Deer Hunter

This is a beautiful piece and John Williams does it flawlessly. As a failed electric guitarist I'd give my right arm to play like this but then I wouldn't be able to play anyway so it's kind of self-defeating.

Nevermind.

MR, which of his CDs would you recommend, and how are the two he did with Julian Bream? I wore out one of the latter's Elizabethan lute music tapes twice back in the 1970s.

I'm sure the jihadis will enjoy it.

Revere -- The John Williams CD I have is a double from a collection about 4 years ago. Has over 40 pieces from his career and not a bummer among them. I have a couple of his on vinyl down there, somewhere, but I don't remember which. Have none with Julian Bream and Williams but I can't imagine that''s anything but awesome. I did search a bit on youtube and found them together so they'll be going up here now and again (oh, they're really good :) as well as some from a concert of the Julian Bream Consort where he plays the lute.

I put this up because I've loved the piece ever since I saw The Deer Hunter when it first came out. I have a wonderful version of it by Liona Boyd on vinyl as well.

Andre -- I can't understand a dang things she's saying :) But I think the Crazy Jihadis are gettin' ready to pour bleach in their eyes.

Next semester I'm going back to my local Jr College's guitar (classical) class-I had three semesters with an excellent professor-and - because I had had 10 years of piano + voice ---I was able to pick up the sight reading ASA I figured out which combination of strings and fingering produce each note...

Come on MR- you must have a decent college program near you that offers classical guitar...

Wow, Patricia Kaas is BEAUTIFUL.

And, she has a beautiful voice.

Thanks for sharing that.

Great guitar playing is 10% talent and 90% practice. I'm strictly rhythm, I don't make it cry or sing. There are few joys greater than succeeding at playing a song and making no mistakes.
Keep trying!

SamenoKami -- so your real name is Guitar George?

Glad you caught that otherwise I would be in dire straits. I am strictly rhythm. Too spastic to do lead.
Buy the best guitar you can afford. A really good guitar will bring your playing up a couple of notches by itself.

I own a dumbass Ovation electric-Acoustic.

Ugh.

I wasn't smart enough when I bought my guitar. But, I'm also not a good enough guitar player to justify buying a better one.

Sameno-- Oh yes. Action is everything.

Pasto -- Trade up Trade up Trade up! Martin makes a good mahogony one the D-15 can usually be had for well under a grand. (I have one terrific deep tone). If your Ovation's in good shape you might beable to make a decent deal.

(never understood why folks liked those Ovations)
