I don't understand the point of this song. It songs like "Can't we all just get along" hippy bullshit.

I know Michael wanted it up. I wrote and asked him to explain the point. I haven't heard back from him yet.

Maybe I am missing some cultural context here.

This makes perfect sense to me as in Spain, Israel is largely exhibited by the media as a totalitarian state and its people as oppressors. The music video is trying to show that Israel is a country of vast diversity and not one of murderers, villains, and war criminals. It's just really disgusting how in Europe, the real murderers, villains, barbarians, and war criminals are viewed as innocent victims fighting the good fight against the unstoppable war machine of the evil, blood-thirsty Zionist state. The song was obviously made to make a dent in that distorted and revisionist way of thinking.

Total has it right!

We really are not at all as the media has portrayed us.

All we want is to be left alone to party and surf....and everyone f*cks with us...and tries to blow us up.

Thanks for the perspective, Total.

But, the solution is never going to be in people learning to be nice to each other and understand each other.

And, what is all this guy's talk of good and evil and manicheanism. it sounds like he doesn't believe the things exist except in the news. It's bullshit. The Palestinians are truly evil people who VOTED HAMAS AS THEIR GOVERNMENT.

There is no hope once that has happened, unless somehow they repent, which I don't believe there's a chance in hell of happening.

He says, "Let's go beyond, it's not impossible, I am not Satan and you are not infallible."

Once again, this is a plea for understanding.

Fuck understanding. Fuck it. There is no understanding. If fucking Spaniards can not understand that Hamas is genocidal in their intent, then fuck the Spaniards too.

Eventually all this is going to shake out and it's going to be brutal.

For once, I find myself on the extreme. I am completely miffed by Michael's suggestion of this video. I think he has gone soft.

This is insanity. I'm guessing Epa might agree with me.

Where's Epa anyway?

Michael,
In my opinion, that is not the message this song gets across.

Do me a favor, and go line by line and tell me how this song is not about "peace, love, and understanding."

It may be calling for peace love and understanding for the Jews, but it leaves the impression that we all need more of that, and it will be the solution, and I'm sorry, but that's just a pile of bullshit.

Look at the captions over the Israelis in the Video...and check out the song I sent you.

Coming from foreigners (Spaniards) it is quite amazing....Europeans are expected to hate us.

Pastorius said...

Oh, so the singer is a Spaniard himself? Not a Jew? See, I thought this was a Jewish man pleading for understanding, and I thought that was fucking pathetic, cuz we're past that by now.

No more trying to gain understanding. Fuck it, the line is in the sand as far as I'm concerned.

Hamas

That's all that needs to be said.

Pastorius said...

I can't speak for Jews, because I'm not a Jew, but I really don't want to see any Jews pleading for understanding anymore.

In a righteous world, there would be no need. If the world is so unrighteous as to turn their backs on this evil, then the world does not deserve the attempt at dialogue.

I wouldn't plea for understanding from my enemies.

No! It's a Spaniard who has visited Israel and seen the truth.........everyone who parties in Tel Aviv knows that the Pals are the fuckin problem,,,not us.

Pastorius,

If you don't think talk can get us beyond our divisions, I suggest you see Bruno. Peace through music is possible.

CJ,
I'm guessing that's a joke.

Obviously, very few people read this blog, or blogs like it, but EVERY TIME I write about Hamas, I include a link to their charter with the note that it calls for "death to the Jews".

I think the fact that that is not common knowledge is evidence of widespread anti-Semitism in the world's media.
