It seems the father was in CYA mode when he threw his son under the bus. And the son, BTW, Obama is still calling a "suspect".

Odinga signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shiekh Abdullah Abdi, chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum of Kenya, to impose sharia should Odinga's violent campaign succeed.
