A fuel tanker flipped on the Long Island Expressway on Saturday morning, resulting in an explosion that killed the driver, melted the roadway and caused major delays for travelers in both directions.
The tanker was trying to avoid a Dodge Neon traveling east between Exits 48 and 49 near the Suffolk-Nassau County line around 8 a.m., said Chief Michael Sharkey of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. It appeared that the “Neon had car trouble and was slowing down,” Chief Sharkey said. In trying to maneuver out of the way, the tanker driver “lost control of his vehicle, flipped it.”
The driver, Mujahid Shah, 57, of Brooklyn, “never got out of the truck,” Chief Sharkey said. He had picked up 12,000 gallons of fuel in Brooklyn that morning to take to Yaphank, N.Y., and it ignited.
The flames shot high into the air, said Steven Richter, a general manager at Ski Stop on the expressway’s service road near the accident in Plainview, N.Y.
The westbound lanes of the highway did not reopen until about 6 p.m., and the eastbound lanes would remain closed overnight, according to the Department of Transportation.

Though there is ample reason to worry about such an attack (it is way easy for them) I think a Muslim driving a tanker truck doth not necessarily a terrorist make. At least in this case. I hope.

To make this work, you would need the right bldg, and/or a way to ignite on demand. While an obstruction and a pain, the LIE is not the way... UNLESS YOU DID IT in the MID TOWN TUNNEL where the LIE enters Manhattan say at 8:30 AM or 6 PM where the explosive force would be concentrated.
If we think about the way the jihadi come back to the same targets, we're looking at Queens Mid Town, Lincoln, Holland and Brooklyn Battery Tunnels. Just ELIMINATE trucks ... they HAVE to go by bridge where if you try this the explosive force is up and out

For those unfamiliar with the nomenclature above - LIE = Long Island Expressway. The LIE is one of the most congested highways accessing the city (the city = New York City).
I second EPA's suggestion to force all trucks (box and tanker) onto the bridges. Cargo vans too.
That's the same kind of accident that killed singer Harry Chapin back in I think it was the 70s. He was in the left lane of the LIE and something either went wrong with the car or with Harry and he drifted in front of a tanker.
Tankers in the tunnels are an attack waiting to happen but they'd practically have to limit it to passenger cars to eliminate the danger significantly.
The lady driving the car was at fault. Just look at where the tanker hit it! She cut him off and he tried to avoid her and lost his life trying. It makes me sick and I am a woman. These drivers go through intense driving training and have to maintain strict medical records and are constantly alert. She pulled out and a driver in control of a tanker holding over 8000 gallons of gas can only do so much. Moreover, drivers holding a tanker endorsement have in the business a HAZMAT endorsement and some have gone through a homeland security background check which get a TWIX card to operate such machinery. These men are extremely reliable and know more than any driver of a 4 wheeler the caution required to operate such a vehicle. This poor man paid the ultimate price because a stupid idiot decided to cut him off to be in time for her appointment. "my car was breaking down" really....The car was a new Dodge Neon..If it was breaking down there was no fuel in the tank...but investigators will find that out and the fact the damage was to the rear, the engine was intact! Was she driving under 40 MPH? All this I hope will be investigated since the driver of the tanker is no longer with us. May he rest in peace. I hope she tells the truth instead of making up a story that makes no sense. You can't fool everyone!
It's ignorant idiots like you that think 'terrorism' just because the man has a foreign name. A poor innocent man lost his life doing his JOB. Making a living, supporting his wife and children. May God give his family patience and May his soul rest in peace.

The FA can close grounds or make teams play behind closed doors, which was West Ham's fate in 1980 when Uefa ordered them to play the second leg of a Cup Winners' Cup tie against Castilla at an empty Upton Park after crowd trouble at the Bernabéu.
My point is that all supporters were tarred with the same brush and to prevent violence from the few, ALL were punished.
It is unfortunate that muslims should pay for their extremist elements, but as with any supporters, football or religion, you have to get your own house in order before trust can be gained.
I am therefore taking an FA stance.
