British Academia Urge Elton John to Cancel Concert in Israel, "You'll Line Yourself With a Racist State That Kills Children"...

From Weasel Zippers:

Anti-Semitism oozes from the UK like puss from an infected wound...

(Haaretz)- A group of British academics have called on singer Elton John to cancel his scheduled performance in Israel this June.

"Political or not political, when you stand up on that stage in Tel Aviv, you line yourself up with a racist state," the British Committee for Universities for Palestine wrote in an open letter to John on Monday. "Do you want to give them the satisfaction? Please don't go."

"You may say you're not a political person, but does an army dropping white phosphorus on a school building full of children demand a political response? Does walling a million and a half people up in a ghetto and then pounding that ghetto to rubble require a political response from us, or a human one," the letter read.

Pastorius,

Yet would they have any problem with him aligning himself with the Palestinians? Also how exactly is Israel racist? You could argue that despite the fact that Jews often refer to themselves as God's chosen people, you can convert in and out of Judaism, so could one argue that they see Judaism as more of a religion than a race. Do they not allow black or Asian Jews to become citizens? Also is every citizen of Israel even Jewish? Also even through its officially a Jewish state, do they not allow people of other faiths to freely practice their faith there? It would have made a bit more sense for them to call it a theocracy, but that too would be nonsense.

Your questions are all rhetorical, right?

Pastorius,

Are my questions rhetorical? The answer to that is yes and no, sort of. Its kind of hard to explain. Its something that could be answered here, if you'd like, but its more of something for people to think about and try to answer themselves. But I have a feeling you know the answer to all of my questions, as well as most of the people who post here.
