Newsarama posted 5 pages of the 13th issue of the 5th Green Lantern volume, and not only does it continue the propaganda tactics with Simon Baz, it also features an odd guest appearance by the unsuccessful president Obama:
I find it puzzling why Amanda Waller says here that she thinks John Stewart is the only one they can trust, and not the white GLs. Is there some kind of subtle racial bias by Johns in there?* For now, this is certainly telling that a company that once decided after the 80s ended that they'd refrain from casting political figures from immediate history has now decided to put them back in, here being in a story like this. The funny thing is how, despite Obama's dreadful positions on Islamic terrorism, including Iran's nuclear menace, the 2 panels here make it sound like he's not that much so, unless his note that "street racing is hardly terrorism" says something. Does this suggest that, despite every possibility that Geoff Johns is a Democrat voter, he's the kind of leftist who has no problem panning those he voted for nevertheless for the wrong reasons? Good question.
And the story continues to make Waller's side look like the baddies, after the suggestion that she might be behind the planting of the bomb in the van Baz stole in the zero issue. Or, that she's hiding the actions of her staff, who were made to look like they were in the wrong, and shady.
I certainly don't want to see the clash Baz is apparently going to have with the Justice League. I can probably guess what kind of projectiles he'll try to batter them with anyway: ring-generated Volvo trucks, since he comes from around Motor City.
* I'm not sure, but Johns occasionally seems to have a negative take on blacks, if the way he's been using Black Manta in Aquaman is any suggestion. Could the way he depicts Waller here suggest something similar?
