The Christian-Lebanese guy John Zawahri (who most everyone on the counter-jihad blogosphere thought was Muslim) was legally not allowed nor able to buy guns. In fact he applied to obtain guns but was denied because he was crazy.
In 2006, he threatened to kill students at his High School.
Since he could not buy weapons, he built his own rifle with parts he could legally buy. And turned an antique pistol into a modern, functional one.
The media claimed that the rifle he used was AR15 but they and the police at the time lied without evidence since AR15 seems to be the new enemy of liberals.

(Santa Monica Police Chief) Seabrooks said investigators believe mental illness played a role in the killings, but she didn’t give details. “We know his was a troubled life and that he experienced mental health challenges,” Seabrooks said.
“We believe that his mental health challenges likely played a role in his decisions to shoot and kill both his father and his brother, to set fire to the family home, and to go on a 13-minute shooting spree spanning roughly 1.5 miles and which left five innocent people dead and three people injured.”
Zawahri apparently built his own .223-caliber assault rifle, using it to shoot his father and brother before he set fire to their family home, officials said earlier Thursday.
