LIZABETH, N.J. — The triggerman in one of the Lehigh Valley's bloodiest shooting sprees killed four men in New Jersey before coming to Easton and Allentown and killing three more people — an "unprecedented" rampage, authorities said Thursday.Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said Todd West of Elizabeth killed the four, who included one of his cousins, in May and June, then came to the Lehigh Valley with another cousin and continued the "horrific" spree early Sunday morning.

Authorities also provided a link between West, 22, and the three homicides in the Valley, saying he is the cousin of Robert A. Jourdain of Easton. Jourdain, 20, is also charged in what authorities have described as "random" killings early Sunday in Easton and Allentown.

Recent mass murderers in the Lehigh Valley include Michael Eric Ballard, who savagely knifed four people to death in 2010 in Northampton, and nurse Charles Cullen, who was arrested in 2003 and pleaded guilty to killing 22 patients in New Jersey and seven in Pennsylvania.
At a news conference, Park said all four New Jersey homicides took place in Elizabeth, the state's fourth-largest city.

On May 18, Park said, West shot and killed his 29-year-old cousin, Michael Thompkins, who was found dead in a hallway of his home. She said West killed three more men and wounded a fourth June 25. Those victims, including the wounded man, were shot on the street, according to Park.
West faces four counts of homicide and one of attempted homicide in New Jersey. He knew one of the victims in the June 25 shootings, according to investigators. When asked if the other June 25 victims were "random" targets, Park said investigators were still looking into that.
She said investigators have not found any evidence that the murders in New Jersey were gang- or drug-related.
 Park said investigators in New Jersey were focused on what happened there and did not have any information on West's activities between the June 25 homicides and Sunday's homicides in the Lehigh Valley. Prosecutors in Lehigh and Northampton counties said they are still investigating what brought West to Pennsylvania.

West, his cousin Jourdain and Kareem Mitchell, 23, of Newark, N.J., face charges in the killings of an Easton man and an Allentown man and woman.
Lehigh Valley prosecutors say West admitted firing a .38-caliber revolver in those homicides and two attempted homicides in Easton, while Jourdain bought the ammunition for the gun and Mitchell supplied the sport utility vehicle they used during the rampage.
According to authorities and court records:
West gunned down 22-year-old Kory Ketrow, who was walking home, at 3:14 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Lehigh Street in Easton.

Minutes later, about a mile away, West got out of the SUV and fired at a couple driving near Route 22 in Easton's downtown, but missed. All three men face attempted homicide charges in that incident.
The three men drove to Allentown, where authorities say West opened fire on Francine E. Ramos, 32, and Trevor D. Gray, 21, two Allentown residents in a car near Sixth and Greenleaf streets. Ramos crashed into the SUV in an attempt to get away, but she was found dead in her car at 3:59 a.m. Gray died a short time later.
Jourdain and West also are charged in three Allentown knifepoint muggings that happened Monday, the day after the killings. They were arrested when Allentown patrolmen chased them down minutes after the third mugging, police said. Mitchell turned himself in later that day.

At the video arraignments on the Lehigh Valley killings, none of the three showed emotion. They remain in Lehigh County Jail without bail.

Lehigh County First Assistant District Attorney Steve Luksa said West, Jourdain and Mitchell were staying at Hamilton Towers in Allentown before the Valley killings. That is where police found the SUV they allegedly used during the killing spree.
Two days before the Lehigh Valley shootings, a warrant was issued in New Jersey for West's arrest on one of the June 25 murders, but he had already fled Union County, Park said. She said authorities in Union County are investigating whether Jourdain and Mitchell were with West at the time of the Elizabeth killings.

The shootings in New Jersey have all been linked to the same .38-caliber revolver, investigators said. Lehigh Valley prosecutors have said a .38-caliber revolver was used in the Easton and Allentown shootings.
New Jersey court records show that in 2013 West pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics stemming from an incident in 2011, and theft and resisting arrest charges stemming from an incident in 2012.
He was sentenced to up to three years in prison in May 2013, and while locked up, he was also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was released in October 2014.
Union County prosecutors said the three men killed in the June 25 shootings were Kelvin Nelson, 32; Jamil Payne, 29; and Dennis Vega, 28, all of Elizabeth.

Lehigh Valley killing spree suspect allegedly gunned down 4 in New Jersey

ELIZABETH, N.J. -
The alleged triggerman in three Lehigh Valley homicides has being charged with fatally shooting four people and wounding a fifth in Union County.
New Jersey authorities announced Thursday that about a week before before Todd West and two accomplices went on a Sunday morning killing spree that left one dead in Easton and two dead in Allentown, he wrought havoc in his hometown of Elizabeth.
On June 25, he shot to death 28-year-old Dennis Vega at 2:27 a.m., Union County prosecutors said during a news conference. The shooting was at New Point Road and Seventh Street.
That night at 9:51, he gunned down Jamil Payne, 29, at South Park and Sixth streets, authorities said. About an hour later at 10:49 p.m., he shot to death 32-year-old Kelvin Nelson in the 300 block of Clark Place.Less than 10 minutes later, he fired on Richard Marte at Jackson Avenue and Julia Street, authorities said. Marte survived his injuries.
The fourth homicide occurred 10:02 p.m.May 18 in the 200 block of Parker Road, authorities said. Police say West gunned down his cousin, 29-year-old Michael Thompkins.
West's court date for the Union County killings has not been set.
The 22-year-old suspect is being held in Lehigh County Jail without bail on charges stemming from the Allentown homicides. In that case, his victims were city residents Trevor Gray, 21, and 32-year-old Francine Ramos at Sixth and Greenleaf streets.
West also has been charged with gunning down 23-year-old Easton resident Kory Ketrow on the block where the victim lived. All three killings occurred within an hour of each other, authorities say.
Also charged in the Lehigh Valley shootings are Easton resident Robert Jourdain, 20, and 23-year-old Kareem Mitchell, of Newark. They're being held in county jail without bail, too.

Survivors of Lehigh Valley shooting spree speak exclusively with 69 News

EASTON, Pa. -
A Northampton County couple say they narrowly escaped a mass murder's deadly shooting rampage.
The man and his girlfriend, who spoke with 69 News, did not want to be identified.
"I am starting to see that these guys were just trying to kill people," said the man. "It's kind of striking me now that the whole story is coming together."
Four days ago, the couple said they found themselves sitting in the cross-hairs of accused killer Todd West.
They said they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time early Sunday morning.
"My girlfriend picked me up and we headed across the bridge into Easton," said the man.
When they stopped at the red light at Third and Spring Garden Street in Easton around 3:20 a.m., they say that's when their hearts stopped too.
"A male got out of the SUV, raised his arm up and started shooting," said the man.
He said his girlfriend who was driving, took off through the red light.
"She just stepped on the gas and pulled away really quick and said oh my God they are going to shoot at us," said the man.
Police said it was West who held the gun in his hands. Just minutes earlier, he had gunned down his first Lehigh Valley victim just blocks away.
"That's when the firing started," said the man. "Three shots and one got in the tire."
Police said West shot at the couple, after killing his fifth victim, 22 year old Kory Ketrow in front of his home on the 1100 block of Lehigh Street in Easton around 3:15 on Sunday. Officials said the shootings are random.
As the investigation continues, the healing process for this couple continues too.
Especially for this man's girlfriend, who was behind the wheel.
"She is a wreck," said the man. "She doesn't want to go anywhere, she doesn't want to go into Easton, or right near that."
The two say tonight, they are thankful to be alive.
"We are very thankful," he said. "It have been worse."
