has been weighing pretty heavily on me the past few days. I have had a
few small discussions on the issue, but haven’t gotten too far into it.

You know I've been thinking ..... If someone wanted to increase the divisiveness in our nation, and perhaps ignite a wide spread racial war ..... banning the confederate flag would be about the best way to achieve that spark.
Of course you'd need some tools on both sides of the aisles to make it happen.
Its great that this Josh dude has decided to stop waving his flag, that's a personal choice he made, and America is all about being able to make your own personal choices.
But you cross the line when you want to deny that choice to others. That's you forcing your choices on everyone else. Thats you attempting to deny others of their freedom of expression. That's you being an intolerant asshole.
But its OK ..... because you think you're right. That makes it OK .... in your mind.
It no longer matters what Southerners think that flag stands for ..... you know better ..... they're just a bunch of misguided racist bastards lying about what it means to them anyway, right?
You're going to try to impose what you think it stands for on them.
How do you think that's going to work out?
But let me guess, as much as you sympathize with the blacks that consider this a racist banner that has no place in our modern society, you strongly disagree with those other blacks and native Americans that consider the American flag a symbol that flew over oppressive acts against their ancestors.
You can disregard their grievances because that's YOUR flag they're talking about...... and you're of course always right.
..... now imagine they somehow managed to create a political environment, after a tragedy where some psychotic dickhead committed an act of violence after taking his picture in front of your flag, and are now trying to force you to stop flying the American flag. They climbed up poles and cut it down. They burned it in public displays. They forced manufacturers to stop making it. Now you cant buy an American flag on Amazon or Ebay.
.... Is that going to change your heart? Are you going to sympathize with their feelings enough to be ashamed to display your flag of choice..... because it hurts their feelings?
Or is it going to piss you off enough to wrap yourself in your flag and tell its detractors to fuck off?
Are you saying the American flag is not your flag?
Southerners and Texans have these allegiances to their own flags.
Such allegiances do not exist anywhere else in the nation, from my experience.
There are a bunch of leftiefags who drive around with Gay Flags and UN flags, and those people make me sick as well.
(I must say, however, that no one makes me as sick as the "CO-EXIST" folks. I want to kill those people, but I digress.)
How many allegiances can one man stand?

To be clear, I do not mean to say that you make me sick, RT.
What I mean is, a strong allegiance to another flag, as representing your role in life, your homeland, that bothers me.
I don't like Mexican flags, Irish flags, ISIS flags, or any other flags people fly.
Freedom is what matters to me, FIRST.
After that, everything else.
So, Christians who venerate Christian flags, yeah, I don't like them either.
A flag represents an allegiance to a place as your home, your way of life.
If you don't like America, if you like some other flag first, to me, that means you'd rather have something other than the Freedom that the American flag represents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
On the other hand, America doesn't mean much of that anymore anyway, so we might as well all just have whatever fucking flags we want, huh?

No, not at all. Its my favorite flag. It means alot to me.
I'd be even more pissed than I am now if someone tried to ban it.
And to be clear the "You" and "Your" in my comment was not directed at you personally or any individual here, but to the mindset of criticizing other's beliefs while ignoring criticisms of yours.
I dont think I've ever owned a Confederate Flag. The Confederate Flag doesn't mean that much to me. Flags in general dont mean that much to me. But this isn't about flags ...... its about one segment of our population trying to dictate their version of morality to another.
The south is unique in America in that it has experienced defeat and occupation while the other areas never have. Try to imagine how it would change your perspective if your area had been defeated and occupied and you were forcefully integrated into the victor's society. Would you feel any connection with your vanquished ancestors?
I was just trying to get ya'll to see this issue from the other side by imagining a scenario where others were trying to force you to abandon your allegiances. To help you understand the depth of southerner's resistance, and how that legislation nor the feelings of others can possibly change your thought processes.
One of my fellow bloggers at RR helped me trace my ancestry. The path backwards stops at Thomas Jefferson Johnson. An orphan who arrived in Texas from Alabama in 1866.
Maybe its just genetic. ;-)

What do you think about NASCAR attempting to stop their fans from flying the Confederate flag?
I say, good luck to them.
They won't have any fans left.
The owners of the track (each track) can decide what they want.

But if they say no ... people ARE either going to stay home or show up with confederate flag clothing and underwear just ITCHING to get on camera.
It's a LOUSY issue all the way around.
Remember, this southern kid wrote that becuase he now has a job in NH, and was convinced those around him just don't get it. So to those in NH, or here in Maine, where I DO SEE THE FLAG, it does represent somethin gelse to them, but they are ignorant of it's full meaning.
The people who fly the flag now need to think of the POSSIBILITY that they are flying that yellow star that says "JUDE" as in 'INFERIOR BY VIRTUE OF GOD'. But it's up to them, and I would fight for their right to fly it AT HOME or on their property.
The whole thing sucks
