Note that if this is done, it renders their work to get him to
promise not to run as a third choice an expedient convenience, in a
contract they knew they would never fulfill.
What would even those who support the GOP but not every nominee every time think?
What would this say to all the independents?
What would this say to all the people who one day might think of running?
What % of voters might then, in the future, look for the least worst alternative among the Democrats?
Would this ENSURE a real third party for 2020?
Lastly
how much of a propaganda victory would this be for an Iranian Guardian
Council that rules on the acceptability of all candidates, before any
election campaign begins?

All along, the GOP managers have been saving: "Donald Trump will not be the nominee."
In fact, back when I had that meeting to which I've alluded earlier, I was told, "Back in 2012, [the leader in primary votes] was not going to be the nominee." In other words, the fix for Romney was already in.
For how many cycles has this management been happening?
And why have primaries at all -- if the nominee is predetermined according to whose turn it is?
Would this ENSURE a real third party for 2020?
It SHOULD!
When asked about the brokered convention, Dr. Carson said it is part of the system, and that he would be OK with it provided THE RULES ARE NOT CHANGED. What was he talking about?
I believe a revolution would be in order, should this be a manipulation to get Romney or whoever the "establishment" wants to sit at the throne. And by revolution I mean, conservatives should simply NOT vote. Let the Dems win and let all go to hell. In the end, I believe this is what they may be looking for. Win on their own terms, or simply let the enemy win. That is what actually destructive people tend to do.

Guardian Council ..... Hmm.
That does about sum it up.
