Sick: Former UN Adviser Whitewashes Female Genital Mutilation As “Gender-Egalitarian Surgeries”

An anthropologist who worked as a consultant for the United Nations and previously worked for the federal government whitewashed the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) as “gender-egalitarian surgeries” in an appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday night. 

Dr. Fuambai Ahmadu compared the brutal practice to male circumcision and complained that FGM opponents have “conflated” minor operations — which she referred to as a “nick” — with the most severe cases of female genital mutilation.

By the way, Ms. Ahmadu references the World Health Organization classifications of FGM, and refers to Type 1 Female Circumcision (FGM) as "a nick".

Let's look at what the WHO actually says about FGM Types 1 and 2:

The complete typology with sub-divisions is described below:

• Type I — Partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or the prepuce (clitoridectomy). When it is important to distinguish between the major variations of Type I mutilation, the following subdivisions are proposed:
• Type Ia, removal of the clitoral hood or prepuce only;
• Type Ib, removal of the clitoris with the prepuce.
• Type II — Partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora (excision). When it is important to distinguish between the major variations that have been documented, the following subdivisions are proposed:
• Type IIa, removal of the labia minora only;
• Type IIb, partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora;
• Type IIc, partial or total removal of the clitoris, the labia minora and the labia majora.

Doesn't sound like just "a nick" to me.

Removing the clitoris directly corresponds to removing the head of the Penis. As you can imagine, removing only part of the clitoris is only marginally better (to put it mildly).

I think the World Health Organization's distinctions are important. They are specific, and we can understand what they mean.

However, I think the over-arching classification of the entire FGM process should be labeled thusly:

HACKING OFF CLITS!

Just as we need to be specific so that we can all understand, and so that we can keep records, we also need to be brutally honest in the general, so that we can all REALLY UNDERSTAND the reality and the suffering caused by this abominable practice.
