Blighting Our Cities

The murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer (and psycho?) Derek Chavin while three other police officers stood by should sadden and outrage any human being with a conscience.

So should what's been happening in United States cities in the days and nights following the murder sadden and outrage us: violence, vehicles set on fire, stores looted.

I well remember the consequences of the 1968 riots in Washington, D.C.  An entire section of downtown Washington remained a blight for years upon years:
The property loss caused by the riots was extensive and included damage to 1,199 buildings, including 283 residential and 1,590 commercial units. Losses to at least partially insured properties in the concentrated area of looting and destruction were estimated at $25 million. Insurance covered only 29% of the total loss suffered by these businesses. As a result of the riot damage, an estimated 2,900 insurance policies were cancelled and 500 businesses suffered inflated insurance rates. The Board of Trade estimated a loss of $40 million in tourist trade during April and May including those due to the cancellation of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

The riots devastated Washington's inner city economy. With the destruction or closing of businesses, thousands of jobs were lost, and insurance rates soared. Made uneasy by the violence, white flight from the city accelerated, depressing property values. Crime in the burned out neighborhoods rose sharply, further discouraging investment.

On some blocks, only rubble remained for decades. Columbia Heights and the U Street Corridor did not begin to recover economically until the opening of metro (subway) stations at U Street in 1991 and Columbia Heights stations in 1999, which in turn assisted the areas' gentrification in the 2010s.
The same will happen to these cities being ravaged today.

The destruction of property is no way to grieve — and serves only to perpetuate a particular racial stereotype, thus setting back race relations for years to come.

I weep for our republic and can barely watch the news during these terrible days.

Stoking The Fires

(Note: I rarely publish a post with so many links for readers to explore. But this time, I'm watching my step, especially in the portion below the fold. I don't want to face charges of copyright infringement!)
We don't need inflammatory rhetoric. We don't need careless accusations thrown around to score political points or to advance an agenda. We need to temper our words and open our hearts ... all of us. — Barack Obama (2016)

Vilifying Us To Our Children?

From the Daily Caller:
Obama biography, required reading, tells fourth-graders that white Americans are racists

...The Obama biography [charges] that white Americans did not want to vote for Obama because of his skin color. However, it neatly explains, America’s 44th president was able to bring everybody together in blissful unity....
Much more at the above link.

So, what's going on in the school that YOUR child attends?

In a few years, you won't be able to have any political conversation with your own child(ren). Disbelieve me at your own peril.

Today Obama Is Awarding Oprah Winfrey The Presidential Medal Of Honor

Despite Winfrey's recent statement that generations "marinated" in racism will need to die out for discrimination to end across the world.

From this source:
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, and on Wednesday November 20th, 2013 President Barack Obama will present the award to 16 recipients, including groundbreakers and MAKERS Gloria Steinem and Oprah Winfrey.

The Medal honors individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions
to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavor.

[...]

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey will also be honored as one of the "world’s most successful broadcast journalists, best known for creating The Oprah Winfrey Show, which became the highest rated talk show in America for 25 years." Winfrey is also an active philanthropist, expanding opportunities for young women around the world....

Hollywood, Obama, And Syria

What kind of reasoning is the following?  Are they afraid that they are closet racists after all?

From Ed Asner Explains Hollywood Silence on Obama, Syria: They 'Don't Want to Feel Anti-Black':
In 2003, ahead of a U.S. attack on Iraq, a robust anti-war movement in Hollywood included [2] a TV commercial starring Martin Sheen and Sean Penn visiting Baghdad. There were online petitions signed by Ed Asner; letters to President George W. Bush pleading for peace were signed by Matt Damon, Tim Robbins, Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin; former M*A*S*H star Mike Farrell fronted multiple press conferences where celebrities denounced war. In interviews, Janeane Garofalo stopped identifying herself as an actor -- she preferred to be called a member of the U.S. anti-war movement.

The good news for President Barack Obama as he considers a military response against Syria for using chemical weapons against rebels is that he probably won't have to deal with a similar anti-war movement from Hollywood. But that's not because there isn't opposition. It's just not organized, and, as Asner and Farrell – two of the industry's most vocal progressive activists -- told The Hollywood Reporter [9] Friday, perhaps it never will be.

While some conservatives see hypocrisy [10], Farrell says that an all-out war in Iraq under Bush, a Republican who was very unpopular in Hollywood, was a much bigger deal than potential missile strikes against Syria under the direction of Obama, a Democrat who drew millions for his campaigns from showbiz industry donors....
Read more HERE. Asner has quite a rant.

Deteriorating Race Relations In America

If this is true, it is APPALLING!

From Newsmax:
Rescued Florida Couple Scared of Zimmerman Connection

A Florida couple, who was rescued with their children from a rollover crash by George Zimmerman, is terrified of becoming targets of people who have threatened to kill him following the court's Trayvon Martin innocent verdict.

"They are very grateful to Zimmerman for what he did, but they do not want to get involved," a friend of Mark and Dana Michelle Gerstle told The Daily Mail in London.
Saved by Zimmerman: The Gerstle family of Dana (left) and Mark (right) stand with their children in a October 2011 photo snapped at a Disney World Halloween party

The Gerstles are afraid they'll be targeted if they make Zimmerman look like a hero, their friend said, speaking anonymously.

The couple had scheduled a news conference on Wednesday to talk about the incident, but have since cancelled it, reports ABC News....
According to the Daily Mail:
... Zimmerman faces living in the shadows for the rest of his life.

Not only has he and his immediate family received death threats, but his legal team have also been warned they are on a hit list....
Hate mobs unchecked will lead to anarchy.

More Devolving

Into what, I'm not exactly sure.

From this article (hat tip to Chuck Thinks Right):
Oregon Principal Claims That Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwiches Might Be Racist

Portland, OR – Elementary school principal Verenice Gutierrez suggested that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches might be racist and culturally offensive during an interview with the Portland Tribune....We now live in a world that is so politically correct, that what we eat for lunch might offend others dining at the same table. The Harvey Scott K-8 administrator was discussing the district’s equity training program which was created to lessen the achievement gap, when comparing the popular lunchbox staple to potential racism.

The Oregon principal “picks up on the subtle language of racism” every day, and used the seemingly innocent looking peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to illustrate her point, according to Fox News.

Verenice Gutierrez had this to say about the allegedly offensive bread spread:

“Another way would be to say, Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that. Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta or pita. What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?”

The district’s equity program is entitled, “Courageous Conversation” and it is designed to take educators on a journey through an intense course so they can understand their own white privilege...
The entire article is HERE.

Chuck's rant on the topic is HERE.

I know for a FACT that similar idiocy also goes on in the Fairfax County Public Schools here in Northern Virginia.

Every grading quarter, teachers are hauled in for in-service days that are loaded with crap such as Gutierrez spouts in the excerpt above, and principals are FORCED to make sure that they submit paperwork showing how culturally diverse and culturally sensitive every single activity is.

One of my best friends serves as principal at one of the elementary schools, and she and I had occasion to have a long conversation yesterday.  The 2012-2013 school term will be her last year, and she can't wait to get the hell out because she's been fighting an uphill battle for over seven years with the political correctness idiocy emanating from the top on down.

It's a wonder that any learning at all is taking place!

And my friend entered the public education profession with such high hopes.  Her hopes were completely dashed about three years ago.  That timing involving the past three years
–  just a coincidence, of course.  NOT!

Paul Ryan Must Be A Racist, Right? WRONG!

He dated a black woman while he was in college.

At Mediaite, we read this statement:
it is misleading to judge a politician’s racial sensitivity to their personal relationships with individuals with a minority background.
Next, I'll be hearing or reading "Paul Ryan is a racist because he didn't marry his black college-girlfriend."

Race, race, race. Can America not get past "the race problem"?

Some historical perspective, penned in 1888: "The Race Problem in America."

For God's Sake!

Saw this over at Breitbart, citing New York Magazine, and burst into the laugh of the lunatic:
Mitt Romney’s plan of blatantly lying about President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” speech is clearly drawing blood. But what makes the attack work so well is not so much the lie itself but the broader subtext of it....

The key thing is that Obama is angry, and he’s talking not in his normal voice but in a “black dialect.” This [meaning, criticizing Obama's you-didn't-build-that remark] strikes at the core of Obama’s entire political identity: a soft-spoken, reasonable African-American with a Kansas accent. From the moment he stepped onto the national stage, Obama’s deepest political fear was being seen as a “traditional” black politician, one who was demanding redistribution from white America on behalf of his fellow African-Americans....
I can't take much more of this crap.

In my view, we are not far away from this: "You MUST be a racist if you didn't vote for Barack Hussein Obama."

No Grand Jury In The Trayvon Martin Case

Via The Blaze:
Tuesday was set to be a pivotal day in the ongoing investigation into the Trayvon Martin case that has rocked headlines and dominated political discussion for the last month, for it was when a group of citizens were set to make up a grand jury taksed with determining if there was enough evidence to arrest George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed the 17-year-old in late February. The Orlando Sentinel is now reporting though that State Attorney Angela Corey has announced that there will be no grand jury in the investigation of the Martin shooting....
According to the Orlando Sentinel:
...Angela Corey, special prosecutor in the case and state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, said Monday that her investigation will continue, but the grand jury will not hear the case.

Corey stressed in a statement that the decision to forego the scheduled grand jury proceedings did not reflect whether or not there will ultimately be a prosecution in the case.

In lieu of a grand jury, Corey's office can choose on its own whether or not to charge George Zimmerman with a crime in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon on Feb. 26.

"The decision should not be considered a factor in the final determination of the case," Corey's office said in a statement....
How will the New Black Panthers receive this information? Remember this earlier post here at IBA.

Voter Disenfranchisement?

THIS is the second recent Washington Post article to mention voter disenfranchisement and voter intimidation:
...There exists a profound and urgent need for the black church to rise up to the challenge of the moment and to unleash its power, implore its membership and lend its resources to make sure the communities they represent are able to fight these latest attempts at disenfranchisement and voter intimidation....
The article goes on to state the following:
In the age of Obama, this has become somewhat of a challenge. The relentless and unjustifiable assaults against the President, which in too many cases are not about policy differences, have caused many in the black church to withhold criticism. They fear giving inadvertent cover to those who have made it their mission to see him fail, even if it means taking our country down with him.
The other article I mentioned in the first sentence of this post states are follows:
The U.S. Constitution is under assault.

So much so that maybe we ought to inscribe this Latin phrase, Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate, or Abandon all hope, ye who enter here, on it alongside the other weighty ideas. This is particularly true for African Americans on the lower economic rungs.

We need immediate grass-roots support because the right to vote will no longer be a sacrosanct and safeguarded principle if conservatives have their way. That was the thinking of many who gathered in the nation’s capital for the recent Congressional Black Caucus weekend.

Barbara R. Arnwine, executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law since 1989, said a “voting rights wall of shame” is being erected in this country that could disenfranchise minorities and youth in 2012. Just last week, a federal judge in the District reaffirmed the continued need for the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and its extensions after a challenge by Shelby County, Alabama....

[...]

...[W]e are still on the battlefield for full enfranchisement. As a response to the clear and decisive disenfranchisement agenda of the right, the U.S. Constitution needs to be amended to make the right to vote explicit!
Is there a reason I'm seeing these two recent references to voter disenfranchisement and voter intimidation?

Are any of you seeing similar references in other venues?

How Many Americans Believe This?

From Real Clear Politics:
Dem Congresswoman Brings Obama's Race Into Debt Ceiling Fight

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) used the race card this afternoon to assess blame in the debt ceiling fight. Jackson Lee, a black Congresswoman, believes the disagreement over raising the debt ceiling is because of President Obama's race.

Obama For Another Four Years?

In Front Page Magazine, Phyllis Chesler opines:
President Obama’s election is due, in part, to the desire among many American liberals and leftists to be seen as “atoning” for the sin of racism and the crimes of slavery. The fact that Obama is bi-racial—his mother was white—matters little since he looks like an African-American. Indeed, the President’s own writing focuses on his African, Muslim roots, especially because his Kenyan father abandoned both him and his mother.

In an era of symbolic identity politics and affirmative action, only one kind of candidate could trump Obama’s credentials and that would be an African-American woman....

[...]

Given the extraordinary pathology of Bush Derangement Syndrome, and short of Armeggedon, I do not believe that enough Americans will, without doubt, elect another white male Republican. No matter what his politics may be, he himself will be seen as retrograde, anti-woman, anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion, pro-racism, pro-war and as both dull and evil. The media, combined with Soros and Saudi monies and our intelligentsia have poisoned the minds of millions....
Read the rest HERE.

Have we really reached the point that whom we elect to the Oval Office depends upon race and gender?

Is white guilt that powerful a force?

Is gender correctness that powerful a force?

Maybe.

When Obama was elected in 2008, many Americans rejoiced, "We are living in an unprecedented time!"

Of course, electing an African-American President was indeed unprecedented for America. There is no denying that fact.

But what tide has been set in motion with this idea of "We must continue with unprecedented times"? Shouldn't political platform be the deciding factor for voters and not race and gender?

When I first read Chesler's essay, I thought to myself, "She's way off base." But the longer I think about what she has written, the more I think that she has a valid point.

Something has gone very wrong with the American electorate. We have lost sight of what deciding upon a political leader should mean.

Congressman Jim Moran Talks to Arab TV

And denounces those who oppose Obama's agenda as racists. From Politico:
Speaking to Arab television network Alhurra, Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) said Republicans made big gains in November in part because “a lot of people in this country … don’t want to be governed by an African-American.”

Even more objectionable to some Americans, he said, is that Obama is a black president “who is inclusive, who is liberal, who wants to spend money on everyone and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society — that’s a basic philosophical clash.”

Moran’s remarks came Tuesday in an interview conducted after Obama delivered his State of the Union speech. Democrats, Moran said, lost for “the same reason the Civil War Happened in the United States … the Southern states, particularly the slaveholding states, didn’t want to see a president who was opposed to slavery.” Virginia, of course, is one of those Southern, formerly slaveholding states....
Thus, Moran is promoting white guilt.

The Civil War is over. Sure, racism still exists in the United States. There's no denying that fact. But to attribute the results of the 2010 elections exclusively to racism is inaccurate and denial of the will of the American people as they exercised that will at the ballot box last November. Besides, the district from which Moran runs for office is overwhelmingly white (liberal), and Democrat Moran got re-elected. Or maybe Moran has decided that Virginia, particularly Northern Virginia is not part of the South - never mind that slaves were indeed held in bondage here in Northern Virginia.

And what the hell is Moran doing talking to Arab television, anyway? Following Obama's lead, I suppose. Obama spoke with al-Arabiya in one of his first interviews after taking office in January 2009.

Here in Northern Virginia, Congressman Moran sometimes runs for office without opposition. And when an opponent does challenge Moran for that particular seat in Congress, Moran trounces him. Never mind Moran's frequent off-the-cuff remarks:
Moran has gotten in trouble for his off-the-cuff remarks in the past. In 2007, he alleged that the “extraordinarily powerful” pro-Israel lobby played a major role in promoting the U.S. war in Iraq. A strong supporter of his district’s Muslim community, Moran faced criticism from Jewish groups in 2003 for saying that then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was visiting Washington “probably seeking a warrant from President Bush to kill at will with weapons we’ve paid for.”
Moran is standing by his recent statements about Obama and racist America.
