Not sure about where you may be but here in Pennsylvania Dutch Country our traditional New Year's Supper for health and prosperity is also a wonderful True Blue Infidel meal. That's right, PORK, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, Jewish rye bread. Check your hijab at the door. The stein (a beauty, a Christmas gift from daughter # 1) holds that local Nectar of the Gods Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale.
Can just smell it, can't you? HEY! Jihadis! You just don't know what you're missing!
And, of course, anticipation. The Good Infidel Dog waiting for his person (daughter # 1) to drop some pork and sauerkraut on the floor.
Fortunately, about the time that sauerkraut kicks in, he will be on his way home with daughter # 1 in her car. Safely away from here. Perhaps I could have him run a few laps in a mosque about that time.
Happy New Year Gang! Health, Peace and Prosperity & Victory to you in 2009!

I have family in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I grew up with saurkraut. Brings back old memories.
Great post.
Yes, I remember you saying you had family in the Valley Forge region. They may be neighbors of mine. But leave it at that.
You know my stomping grounds then so here's maybe another Dutch Country memory for you:
Spent the day with my kids (all returned home for college breaks) watching the Mummers Parade.
New Year's Day. Cold. Crisp. Clear. Everyone home. Pork and sauerkraut. The Mummers. It doesn't get any better.
That sound you heard was a Yuengling Chesterfield being popped and raised to you, good sir.
Cheers!
We have pork chops and sauerkraut in Arkansas too.
Ours is a pork roast (usually) pork chops are awesome too. Heck, one really tough year we made do with hot dogs and sauerkraut.
Guess what they say is true.
Wait for it. . .
C'mon. . .
Any old pork in a storm!
(Thank you, Travis, for setting that up so well)
Pork and sauerkraut, twice cooked in the crock pot, and served with cornbread -- nothing better!
AoW --exactly! With a little onion and maybe a little apple cut in. . .yum!
