This is why every single application of diplomatic and economic measures, such as those against Iraq from 1991 to 2003 achieved NOTHING except the dedication of the govt of such powers as mentioned above to squirm their way to the goals which aid them in THEIR WAR.
To Iran it is simply far more important to be conducting this war than any other consideration. Win or lose. To the Palestinians, it has been, through this day, far more important to be conducting this war than it is to have peace. How can you have peace when the goal of the war is the destruction, conquering and vanquishing of any aspect of teh rule and cohesion of the enemy?
The trial in NY is a battle in this war.
The Goldstone Report is a lost battle in this war.
The apologies by Obama are, each and every one, a retreat of divisions in this war.
And like any battle, retreats, and losses generally mean more casualties and deaths.
In this war one side has done everything it can to avoid admitting that even the frank violent actions form a cohesive whole we can call a war.
In this war one side has failed to understand the battlefield, or the enemy

Consider how Samir Quntar is regarded by one side in this war. Einat Haran is a VALID casualty to one side in this war. What possible political or economic suasion can reason with this war? None.
We cannot win this war the way we are conducting ourselves.
