A Well Regulated Militia Being Necessary to the Security of a Free State. . .

With today's FBI raids it might be a good time to remember that WE The People are THE Militia as the Founders envisioned it and so penned in The Second Amendment. Every one of us.
When the Redcoats (no offense, Ray) came to seize the military supplies at Concord ("and do try to bag those scoundrels Adams and Hancock, will you?") it wasn't a standing army that met them at the bridge and on the green. It was farmers and shopkeepers and laborers who showed up with their hunting rifles in an act of self defense of their land and their towns. Had the Regulars not come, these farmers would not have gone looking for a fight. They had way too much other shit to be looking after.
And indeed, when The Declaration of Independence was written. TJ and friends were not looking for a fight though they knew they would get one. If King George would simply have acquiesced the colonials would not have gone about plinking at anyone in a British uniform.
And that is important to remember, because as things get worse, there will be more "militias" like this showing their hand., stirring things up.
Remember, WE are THE Militia. And that does not mean we go looking for a fight but are ready willing armed and able IF one comes to us. Ready to defend hearth home kith kin and country but not just taking potshots at anyone in uniform.

question:
does the new socialized medicine bill contain the words:
"Ready Reserve Corps"...with ...
$5,000,000 per year for the next 4 years for "recruitment & training," and $12.5 million per year for...? Salaries/funding and equipment? Who knows? Do they really need to give us a reason for what they are doing with our tax dollars any more? (page 1315, lines 3-8)
if true--and I have not read all 2000 pages--then-those words worry me more than a Christian group being 'investigated' by the FBI and DHS...

Anon --- read this about the Ready Reserve Corps

http://ibloga.blogspot.com/2010/03/what-is-all-this-about-from-right-truth.html

I'm not worried about this militia, only so far as it damages the rest of us trying to fight back.

It's history MR but it could have been different in 3 ways:

1) If George III wasn't mad it may not have happened. Having said that America would not have flourished as a colony for too long and would likely have become independent some other time.

2) the Redcoats were not all that bad for America, indeed if it were not for them you might all be speaking French today. General Wolfe defeated the French at Montreal thus Canada were then mainly English. They then went on to clear the French out of the Midwest and out of America.

3) it gives you guys something to celebrate on 4th July.

They BETTER have evidence of CRIMES. It had BETTER be provable.

It had BETTER be far more than some agent provocateur

So far they have been so secretive all I know is that there were raids across several states, the leaks are about christian militia and terrorism keeps getting mentioned.

Let's see what they've got.

Epa,
If there is no evidence of crimes and the secretiveness continues, then what?

This was written in response to my 11 yr old who, hearing my wife and I talking about things in tis country, said "Daddy, if there is a civil war here please don't be in the militia" at which point I explained as I did here but in a11 yr old terms.

This would have been written even without the Hutaree story. That just added an angle. But I agree, we need to see some evidence of crimes happening or about to happen, otherwise they're just a bunch of fringe loons and time would have been better spent (would have in any case) at Islamberg or Red House.

As for Hutaree, if this is a bunch of people sitting back in the woods waiting for the second coming and preparing to help that along and not hurting anybody I don't care whether they have rubber band pistols or Apache gunships back there.

But if they were advocating the violent overthrow of the government, that's another matter but we need to see charges and evidence of sedition.

But if, as the Newsmax story this morning suggests, this was a raid solely or mostly on gun charges then it starts to sound very Waco to me.

The story says they took 2 dozen guns from a house. Big deal. I have that many here.

All legal.

And at least 1,000 rounds (yes, that's the correct number of zeroes) for each caliber.

They are now claiming these people were plotting to kill police officers as an instigatory episode to trigger a general revolt.

Now we have to wait for the proof.

BIG CLAIM

If true they are and ought to be MEAT. But again, if this is some agent provocateur dippy workup it's going to suck
