Said chairman of the EU-Comission Barroso and Bundeskanzler of Austria Wolfgang Schüssel tuesday.
Barroso warned against a marginalisation of European muslims. Islam is part of Europe: “we must speak of an European islam” he stressed.
“People from muslim faith must not be charged with the problem of having to choose between their faith and European values. Europe is big enough to incorporate Islam.”

Does he realize that this is actually a tacit admission of incompatibilities between European values and Islam?
And furthering the point, does he care?
There's a rather unusual article (for the BBC) on Islam in Europe at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5042418.stm
"When the Dutch canary stops singing, we should beware. It will tell us that we have sacrificed personal liberty and freedom of speech out of fear of assassination on some street corner in broad daylight.
It is not easy to resist the urge to quiet an irritant voice like Hirsi Ali's. But each of us has to understand that the price of communal silence - the decision not to talk openly about difficult-to-resolve issues of faith and mores - is too high for us to pay. The cut and thrust of political debate, public controversy, and stated positions unacceptable to particular groups, is a vital part of a healthy political state. "
Is the BBC finally waking up from it's dhimmitude? Maybe even these PC multiculti moonbats can no longer ignore the elephant in the living room.
....and another thing:
"Europe is big enough to incorporate Islam."
There are some people who think it will be the other way round
See http://www.myh.org.uk/events.htm for 'The Future of EUROPE IN ISLAM'
They obviously think they've got Europe in the bag already. Maybe they're right.
