The most important prerequisite of a successful terror campaign is effective mass media communications. Because the goal of a terror campaign is to instill terror in the populace, a terror campaign without mass media coverage is like a tree falling in the woods with no one to hear it.
Here, David Warren explains how the MSM works for guys like Bin Laden and Zarqawi:
So much of the credit for his (Zarqawi's) murderous successes, and those of other terrorists like him, must be given to the mainstream media -- both East and West. Journalists assiduously advance the terrorist cause, by reporting almost exclusively on allied setbacks and mistakes, and by their ceaseless improvisation of destructive criticism against “Bush” and other Western leaders and allies. Heroic, and largely successful reconstruction efforts in Iraq have been ignored; instead we have an endless spool of meticulously-reported terror hits.
The Western media attention to, and celebration of, such unstable characters as Cindy Sheehan and Michael Berg, make their alliances obvious. The New York Times has been the bellwether for this. Almost every news item touching Iraq is spun to maximize its demoralizing effect on the allied war effort. And across America itself, editors look to the Times nightly front-page line-up for clues on how to slant their own coverage.
To an enemy who depends utterly on morale, in the absence of significant military abilities -- who has only such weaponry as he can rig or steal, and only such soldiers as he can recruit in secret; who has no secure territory to which he can retreat and regroup -- this constant and reliable support from the media is indispensable. Without it, the “resistance” in Iraq would have collapsed quickly, saving ten-thousands of lives; and the Afghan “resistance” would be in greater disarray (though it has the benefit of secure pasturage in remote tribal mountain fastnesses).
The American military spends billions of dollars developing effective systems for its troops to communicate with each other, and with the larger world.
The American Mainstream Media gives the terrorists their communications systems for free.

As Americans, we can affect the MSM here in our country. Quite simply and effectively.
Don't visit their sites. Don't talk about their opinions, their articles, but DO discuss their bias and traitorism. Do not buy their newspapers, or magazines.
Money is the key to the anti-American rhetoric they pass off as news.
Simply ignore them. Convince your friends and family to ignore them.
Money talks.
When they have no one reading their papers, buying the magazines, or visiting their sites, the advertisers will go elsewhere.
Bullshit walks.
Good point, Joe C.
I used to subscribe to Newsweek, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Spin, and the LA Times. I canceled them all, since 9/11. I don't buy them in stores either.
However, I do constantly reference the NY Times and the Washington Post, as well as a variety of British and French newspapers on my blogs.
I don't know how I could avoid it.
I have to be able to substantiate the points I am making, and the truth is, those papers report on things we need to discuss. Even if they don't report accurately, we still need to discuss what they report, because a lot of times we can piece together the truth from multiple reports.
Once again, back to the money issue.
Cultivate those resources that are non-biased. Support the sites and media that do tell the truth.
If we never wean ourselves from the lies and bias, the MSM will remain the same.
That is unacceptable.
In addition to not buying the newspapers, watching the tv news, etc, why not go after the advertisers? Don't buy their product--and write and tell the companies why you aren't buying their products. If enough people do this and the companies' bottom lines start to drop then maybe they'll force the media to be less biased. But it will take a lot of folks to do this.
Unfortunately the Muslims are experts at lobbying the MSM. Take a look at this attempt to enforce censorship by pre-emptive complaints before a program is even broadcast:

Urgent Alert: Complain to BBC regarding forthcoming Panorama Documentary

1. Background
The broadcast journalist John Ware, responsible for last year\'s one-sided Panorama programme on British Muslim leadership, is making another documentary about British Muslims.
This time he is focusing on the community’s alleged support of Palestinian groups and aims to expose activists’ links with political movements such as Hamas which Ware considers to be a terrorist organisation. For more details we refer to the journalist Faisal Bodi’s article on the forthcoming documentary on The Guardian website:
http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/faisal_bodi/2006/06/british_muslims_braced_for_mor.html
Ware’s last programme ‘A Question of Leadership’ was supposed to examine the role of the Muslim Council of Britain. Instead, it degenerated into an ‘McCarthyite’ attack on Muslims and their beliefs, overflowing with Islamophobic stereo-types and glaring inaccuracies. John Ware’s pro-Israel bias was also evident in the documentary. He reserved all his criticisms and condemnations for the Palestinians without a word of criticism for the Israelis.
The programme resulted in the BBC receiving over 600 complaints in the first week alone and provoked wide spread condemnation by Muslim groups and non Muslims alike. The documentary and its Islamaphobic nature was also highlighted by the IHRC via our alert:
http://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=1497
IHRC is deeply concerned that once again BBC is being used as platform to unleash another prejudiced and hate-filled attack on the Muslim community, by a journalist whose anti-Muslim prejudice has been fully exposed.
IHRC also feels that by choosing a journalist with a personal agenda against Muslims, to present a programme on the Palestine-Israel conflict, the BBC will be unable to fulfill their duty to report with accuracy and impartiality.

Religion of Pieces,
The Islamofascists are so organized it is amazing. And, in addition to their amazing organization, they also experience almost no opposition from within their ranks.
