Move along, nothing to see here

TEL AVIV — The Hamas-led PA and its aligned militias have acquired at least 50 SA-7 shoulder-fired anti-aircraft systems.

Israeli intelligence has concluded that many of the systems were smuggled from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip over the past six months.

"They are building an anti-aircraft threat, but they have decided not to use it yet," an official said.

The Israel air force determined a Palestinian anti-aircraft capability in 2004. Palestinian fighters fired surface-to-air weapons in early 2006, but they were not SA-7s, with a range of about 3.5 kilometers.

The air force has reduced manned operations over the Gaza Strip, preferring the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, the air force said the prospect of a Palestinian downing of an Israeli helicopter has increased.

"The threats of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles in Gaza are increasing, and we are preparing for that," an officer said. "We will keep operating in a fitting manner, but we can't promise 100 percent that a helicopter won't be damaged over Gaza."

In November, Israel's Foreign Ministry released a report saying the PA was believed to have acquired at least 12 anti-aircraft systems. But officials said the figure reflected an assessment from early 2006.

Hamas has sought to produce a version of the SA-7, which would provide the PA with a credible anti-aircraft threat. Hizbullah advisers have been helping Hamas in the effort.

Yes, that's right boyzngirlz, the sunni and shia can't work together...hey the good news is that there's hope for Iraq, we now see the Muslim Brotherhood (HAMAS, OBL) can work with Hizballah (Iran, Hojatieh).
