UNDISCOVERED Techically Recoverable Resources?

Now I admit I'm no geologist, but if these resources are undiscovered, how the hell does anyone know they're there.

Dowsing?

Perhaps it's not that the resources are un-'discovered', rather - they are 'un-tapped'.

I've heard of 'un-proven' or 'proved' reserves. The term 'un-discovered' appears to be a misnomer.

It's information from the United States Geological Survey.

Don't expect a goverment agency to get the terms right.

However, in the past all of USGS's estimates of oil deposits have been way low.
