Jerusalem Falls to British, "Great Rejoicing in the Christian World"

Christians ain't what they used to be.

From Daniel Pipes

Reporting on Allenby's conquest of Jerusalem on December 9, 1917, the New York Herald announced in a headline: "Jerusalem Rescued by British after 673 Years of Moslem Rule." Subtitles then elaborate: "Great Rejoicing in the Christian World" and "Jews Everywhere in Particular See the Restoration of Palestine as Part of Allies' Programme."

The math checks out: 1917-673=1244, the year when the Ayyubids, with Khwarezmian aid, seized the city for the last time from the Crusaders.

The newspaper's second page boasts stories under headlines that read "Distinguished Jews Here [i.e., New York] Express Joy Over Capture of Jerusalem by British," "Rescure of Jerusalem Causes Joy," and "Holy City Ravaged in Many Wars by Pagan and Turk: Has Been Under the Yoke of Mohammedan Rule for 670 Years."

Comments:

(1) The lead headline captures a mentality once dominant but now rare in the West, when there was a self-conscious "Christian world" and it rejoiced in a religious/military victory over Muslims.

(2) Conversely, the "Muslim world" would still today rejoice in precisely this manner, recalling medieval rivalries, raising religious sentiments, and taking satisfaction at the humiliation of an age-old enemy.

(3) If the West can travel so far in less than a century, why not Muslims as well?

(4) It's no wonder that Jews and Zionists "expressed joy" over the British conquest, for it had been barely over a month since London had proclaimed the Balfour Declaration in which His Majesty's Government stated that it viewed "with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people." Pastorius,

Today the title of this old news paper article alone would be too politically incorrect.

Pastorius said...

Yes, I think that is true.

My man, sorry to ask a personal question, but are you Jewish? You certainly are morally right on on this issue. Not many non-Jews would make the statement you just made?

Pastorius,

I'm not Jewish. My Grandfather is ethnically part Jewish and he sees himself as a Jew, but he eats bacon so he's not that religious. However, like me he's a big time Israel supporter. However, much of my attitude towards Israel comes from in part, several years of studying history, and Listening to Rush Limbaugh on the subject.

Damien,
Yes, I understand.

Do you think that being Jewish enough for Hitler plays any part in your opinions? Hitler would have considered you a Jew.

Damien said...

Pastorius,

It probably does.

Muslims oppressed Christian Europe for centuries, why shouldn't the Christians of that time rejoice over the defeat of their fiercest enemies?

"If the West can travel so far in less than a century, why not Muslims as well?"

Yeah, why can't the Muslim world be as self destructive as ours? Muzzling itself with political correctness, banning freedom of speech, banning criticism of religion, importing a 5th column bent into toppling the hostage countries institutions and way of life, branding as racist anyone who dares to defend him or herself from Muslim attacks and denounce Muslim supremacism.

"Conversely, the "Muslim world" would still today rejoice in precisely this manner, recalling medieval rivalries, raising religious sentiments, and taking satisfaction at the humiliation of an age-old enemy"

These days it's Shiites and Sunnis leaving aside their mutual hatred for each other to join together against us. We in the other hand are in complete disarray, open wide to any attack from the Muslim 5th column in our countries and attacks from rogue states like Iran.

Damien,
Here's something I have never revealed in all my years of blogging; I was adopted, and I am genetically Jewish on my Grandmother's side.

I did not know this until I was 25 years old.

However, somehow, I became aware that I was Jewish (of perhaps I should say, I began to believe that I was Jewish) at the age of 13.

I do not look Jewish. Not in the slightest. I look like Hitler's wet dream

But, somehow, anti-Semites can pick me out. I have actually been physically attacked for being a Jew. In fact, that happened before I knew I was a Jew.

This is one of the reasons (and I know you think I am nuts on this issue) that I believe there is a supernatural component in this whole Islam/Jew-hatred thing.

I have witnessed it first hand.

I have blond hair and blue eyes. Why would anyone think I was a Jew, when I did not even know I am a Jew?

By the way, the attack was by a Christian male. He was angered by the fact that I, "a little Jewish boy", would wear a Christian cross around my neck.

That's a true story.

Bizarre, huh?

I know, for sure, that my reaction to this whole Jew-hatred thing comes, in part, from the fact that I am Jewish enough for Hitler.

However, as I grew up, for whatever reason, my best friends, and my girlfriends were Jewish.

As racist as it might seem to say this, it would seem, somehow, this is passed down genetically.

As an adopted person, I am unique in that I can see what I got from my birth parents (whom I know well), and what I got from my adoptive parents.

I really should write a post on this subject.

My real name sounds Jewish. My family who raised me is not Jewish. They are Dutch/German. But, the name sounds Jewish.

Pastorius

That might explain it.

Pastorius said...

It might.

I don't know, Damien.

I never could figure that one out.

When I was older, I talked to some of my Jewish friends, and they had had some similar experiences.
