Yup. The title's a line out of the national anthem of the UAE which starting this academic year all (UPDATE: I put the wrong link earlier. I just corrected it) school children are going to be forced to sing every morning to instill "in them the spirit of nationalism and patriotism."
This wouldn't be a big problem if all or most of the school children here in the UAE were actually UAE nationals and Muslims but the fact is that over 75% of the population of the UAE is foreign.
Foreigners can't apply for citizenship here. If you decide to move here for work, you move here on a 3 year contract and so you and your family have a 3 year resident visa. The UAE does not have anything known as permanent residency. Not even close. Every 3 years you have to renew your contract with your employer and only if the employer wants do you get to stay in the UAE. The employer has the right to fire you and send you back to your country at will without having to explain anything to anyone.
Now, considering all that--what the hell's the point of making foreign children sing the national anthem of the UAE when they can't even call this stupid country their home, EVER!?
If I had children, I would have long packed my bags and left. Just because of this, you ask? YES! Just because of this. To me this is bigger than just singing praises for a country that treats you like slaves (I wouldn't even do that)--this now becomes a matter of idol-worship. I have said this before and I will say it again, I will never bow down to the Islamic god. I don't know why others that live here and who actually have children don't seem to have that much of a problem with this policy.
My question to the "so-called" Christians who have children living in the UAE: Don't you see anything wrong with your children worshiping another god?
And to those who don't believe in God: Don't you have any problem bowing down to the flag of Islam and accepting the guidance of Quran and hadiths that ask for the death of infidels and for jihad (military struggle) until the whole world is Muslim?
Here's a less politically correct translation of the UAE anthem (The image of course is not from the UAE):
Live my country, the unity of our Emirates lives
You have lived for a nation
Whose religion is Islam and guide is the Quran
I made you stronger in Allah's name oh homeland
My country, My country, My country, My country
Allah has protected you from the evils of the time
We have sworn to build and work
Work sincerely, work sincerely
As long as we live, we'll be sincere sincere
The safety has lasted and the flag has lived oh our Emirates
The symbol of Arabism
We all sacrifice for you, we supply you with our blood
We sacrifice for you with our souls oh homeland
Yup, nothing better than bowing down to Arabism (remember, NO RACISM HERE!) and of course, nothing better than sacrificing your SOULS for an Arab and a Muslim country that openly condones and practices slavery.

Good grief, AA, I hope that at least has a catchy tune. Are they really that fond of the word "sincere"?
Avenging Apostate,
If you live in the United Arab Eremites, I would recommend that you get out now. I would be willing to bet that they wouldn't take too lightly to you blogging here.
Not to mention your user name and the fact that you use an Israeli flag as your avatar.
Avenging Apostate is living dangerously, isn't he Damien?
Pastorius,
I sincerely hope he doesn't get imprisoned or killed for thought crimes. Make no mistake, he's brave, but I fear he maybe taking unnecessary risks.
Damien,
I don't think the risk is unnecessary or as risky as you think it might be. It is pretty risky if I act stupidly though. But I try to ensure I don't get caught.
Wish I could actually do a lot more. I don't even know if anyone from the UAE actually reads this and if anyone is tracking my posts then they should know that I am writing from the North Eastern region of the US ;-)
Here in Northern Virginia, foreign children can opt out of saying the Pledge of Allegiance in the public schools. They can also refuse to sing our National Anthem.
Actually, wouldn't that be true of any non-citizen?
