UK: Number of Non-Muslims Using Sharia Law System up 15%

From Weasel Zippers:

(Guardian)- Campaigners have voiced concerns over a growing number of non-Muslims using Islamic law to resolve legal disputes in Britain despite controversy over the role of sharia law.

A spokesman for the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal (MAT) said that there had been a 15% rise in the number of non-Muslims using sharia arbitrations in commercial cases this year. Last year, more than 20 non-Muslims chose to arbitrate cases at the network of tribunals, which operate in London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, Nuneaton and Luton.

"We are offering a cheap and effective service for Muslim and non-Muslims," said MAT spokesperson Fareed Chedie. "95% of the people who come to us for arbitration do not feel they need legal representation."

Chedie said that tribunals deal mainly with civil and commercial cases, including mosque disputes referred by the Charity Commission. But the tribunals have also continued to hear cases in the field of family law and divorce, Chedie said.

"We are increasingly dealing with reconciliation and mediation in marriage," said Chedie. "Many of these are cases where women have petitioned because they have a difficult marriage and want some guidance and direction. If they then want to terminate the marriage then we can help with that."

BS! Of these "network of tribunals, which operate in London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, Nuneaton and Luton" all rapidly becoming Islamic sewers . . .there's
probably some unfortunate non-Muslims suckered into contracts with muslims who either cry poverty or simply don't want to fork funds out for a legitimate barrister to review disputes in their cases. These sharia compliant arbitration tribunals are not likely to rule against the believer.

Never wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.

Yes, I thought it was BS too and your explanation sounds about right.

Now I don't think Sharia law as implemented in the UK should be permitted but on the other hand Jewish Law, Beth Din, has been in force in England for 1,000 years

British Jews, particularly the orthodox, will frequently turn to their own religious courts, the Beth Din, to resolve civil disputes, covering issues as diverse as business and divorce.

English law states that any third party can be agreed by two sides to arbitrate in a dispute, and in this case the institutional third party is the Beth Din and the Sharia Court.

Trouble is ban one and both have to be banned. It's the same with halal and kosher slaughter of animals.

I don't understand what you think is bullshit. Could you let me know please?

Pastorius, for my part, I call BS because I do not believe that a non-muslim would seek dispute resolution through sharia courts unless a muslim was party to the dispute. Understanding the reduced legal stature of the infidel according to sharia, it makes absolutely no sense for an non-muslim to subject his interest to sharia justice.

Gotcha.

Good point.

You never know, though. There are an awful lot of politically correct dhimmis out there.

Same as anonymous. This is just being used as twisted propaganda by the muslims.
