"You've betrayed Vietnam. Someday you're going to sell out Taiwan. And we're going to be around when you get tired of Israel."

I won't say the V word, but that quote is Hafez Assad to Henry Kissinger a few months after the little scene at 22 GIa Long Street.

While the wars in and of themselves have almost NOTHING in common, Iraq and the other place might make a definitive statement about the american people, and our poltician's ability to play to our weaknesses in order to garner votes.

What Mr. Assad summed up in that comment is all that we need to know about what might be in common between Iraq and the other place.

One day we will need all the allies we can find.

Who will ally themselves to a people so self defined?
