Chechen President Approves Honor Killings

Dated April 29, 2012:
ACHXOY-MARTAN, Chechnya — Chechnya's government is openly approving of families that kill female relatives who violate their sense of honor, as this Russian republic embraces a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam after decades of religious suppression under Soviet rule.

In the past five years, the bodies of dozens of young Chechen women have been found dumped in woods, abandoned in alleys and left along roads in the capital, Grozny, and neighboring villages.

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov publicly announced that the dead women had "loose morals" and were rightfully shot by male relatives. He went on to describe women as the property of their husbands, and said their main role is to bear children.

In this small Chechen village, residents talk about the teenage girl who was killed in early February after she spent a night at her boyfriend's house.

The 16-year-old's body was wrapped in a traditional rug and returned to her mother's house. Her relatives are suspected of killing her in the name of family honor.

To escape the strict mores, some of the young opt for early marriage, which they view as the gateway to independence, sexual activity and societal respect. That goes for young Chechen men, also.

Abu-Khadzh Idrisov, 20, married in his teens to simply experiment, he said. His first marriage at age 14 lasted barely a year. He married a second time at 18. He spotted his future wife at a park in Grozny and, with the help of his friends, kidnapped her.

"When I married her, I honestly knew only two things: her name and the school she studied at. We talked together once," he recalled. "But we have traditions and extremely strict rules in Chechnya, and you can't just ignore them. I carry my family's name, and if I tarnish it, I will have problems."
Over and over again, we here at IBA and elsewhere post stories along this same line of the barbarity of fundamentalist Islam.

My concern grows that we are preaching to the choir and that the rest of the world really is buying into the idea that Islam is a religion of beauty and peace.

Is it even possible to counter the whitewash of Islam before the ground is littered with bodies mutilated or dead at the hands of fundamentalist Muslims?

Yet, we infidels who woke up largely as a result of 9/11 slog on. Until the day that we are censored from sounding the alarm.

In case you wondered what the USA represents, and why we shouldn’t need to apologize to ANYONE

The dramatic nighttime escape of a blind rights lawyer from extralegal house arrest in his village dealt a major embarrassment to the Chinese government and left the United States, which may be sheltering him, with a new diplomatic quandary as it seeks to improve its fraught relationship with BeijingThe lawyer, Chen Guangcheng, one of the best-known and most politically savvy Chinese dissidents, evaded security forces surrounding his home this week and, aided by an underground network of human rights activists, secretly made his way about 300 miles to Beijing, where he is believed to have found refuge in the American Embassy, according to advocates and Chinese officials.
An official in the Chinese Ministry of State Security on Friday said that Mr. Chen had reached the United States Embassy, but American officials would not confirm reports that Mr. Chen had found shelter there.
Mr. Chen’s escape represents a significant public relations challenge for the Chinese government, which has sought torelegate him to obscurity, confining him to his home in the remote village of Dongshigu and surrounding him with plainclothes security guards, even though there are no outstanding legal charges against him.
He didn’t go the Russian Embassy, or the French. He didn’t go to the British or the Canadian. He didn’t go to the Australian or the Swiss.
He went where HISTORICALLY freedom, human rights, freedom of conscience is aggressively defended.
This is not a gimme as was the reality of the decision over Osama, especially given what occurred when Bill Clinton was president (four chances to get Bin Laden, refused at the advice of John Brennan ..Obama’s Terror Security Man).
Let’s see what happens. Aggressive and public defense of freedom? Silent finesses as we take this man in? An apology to China? Craven acts of obsequiousness?
If we do no more than the minimalist actions required by the advice of John Q Adams, we should at east expect a welcoming as a hero, and a warning that the whole world is watching what happens to Chen Guangchen’s family

“. . . Each of us is only here because somebody looked out for us. Not just our parents, but our neighbors and our communities and our houses of worship and our VFW halls. Because we had a country that was willing to invest in things like community colleges and universities and scientific research and medicine and caring for our veterans. Each of us is only here because somebody somewhere had our backs. Because generations of Americans worked together. ‘Out of many we are one.’ Those are values we gotta return to. . .”

On The Outside Looking In

No matter how paranoid I think I am, Obama proves I am not paranoid enough with his actions … he is RICHARD NIXON

WSJ:the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.
Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for “betting against America,” and accuses you of having a “less-than-reputable” record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.
Are you worried?
Richard Nixon’s “enemies list” appalled the country for the simple reason that presidents hold a unique trust. Unlike senators or congressmen, presidents alone represent all Americans. Their powers—to jail, to fine, to bankrupt—are also so vast as to require restraint. Any president who targets a private citizen for his politics is de facto engaged in government intimidation and threats. This is why presidents since Nixon have carefully avoided the practice.
Save Mr. Obama, who acknowledges no rules. This past week, one of his campaign websites posted an item entitled “Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney’s donors.” In the post, the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent. Describing the givers as all having “less-than-reputable records,” the post went on to make the extraordinary accusations that “quite a few” have also been “on the wrong side of the law” and profiting at “the expense of so many Americans.”
These are people like Paul Schorr and Sam and Jeffrey Fox, investors who the site outed for the crime of having “outsourced” jobs. T. Martin Fiorentino is scored for his work for a firm that forecloses on homes. Louis Bacon (a hedge-fund manager), Kent Burton (a “lobbyist”) and Thomas O’Malley (an energy CEO) stand accused of profiting from oil. Frank VanderSloot, the CEO of a home-products firm, is slimed as a “bitter foe of the gay rights movement.”
Nothing is more important than volunteering for Mitt Romney, donating and ensuring that Barack Obama returns to organizing for ACORN, and assumes the position in history of James Buchanan.

Islamists finally figure out when women are most subdued

When they are dead, apparently.

Egypt’s women urge MPs not to pass early marriage, sex-after-death laws: report

Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) has appealed to the Islamist-dominated parliament not to approve two controversial laws on the minimum age of marriage and allowing a husband to have sex with his dead wife within six hours of her death according to a report in an Egyptian newspaper.

The appeal came in a message sent by Dr. Mervat al-Talawi, head of the NCW, to the Egyptian People’s Assembly Speaker, Dr. Saad al-Katatni, addressing the woes of Egyptian women, especially after the popular uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.

She was referring to two laws: one that would legalize the marriage of girls starting from the age of 14 and the other that permits a husband to have sex with his dead wife within the six hours following her death.
According to Egyptian columnist Amro Abdul Samea in al-Ahram, Talawi’s message included an appeal to parliament to avoid the controversial legislations that rid women of their rights of getting education and employment, under alleged religious interpretations.

“Talawi tried to underline in her message that marginalizing and undermining the status of women in future development plans would undoubtedly negatively affect the country’s human development, simply because women represent half the population,” Abdul Samea said in his article.

The controversy about a husband having sex with his dead wife came about after a Moroccan cleric spoke about the issue in May 2011.
So the first moves are to ensure you can finally schtup the woman without having to bother with her, then marry her replacement at 14, and ensure she won’t become educated enough to figure out she’s totally screwed.

Disgrace: Joe Sacco's Gaza propaganda wins award in Oregon

The Oregonian says:
Joe Sacco's "Footnotes in Gaza," the presumptive favorite, won the first Graphic Literature Award Monday night at the 25th annual Oregon Book Awards at the Gerding Theater.

Better late than never.
Ugh, and they even make their own bias clear too. Better if it hadn't won anything at all, but this is a leftist paper in a leftist state like Oregon saying this. To make matters worse, that book review they link back to has the additional gall to say:
When Abed El-Aziz El-Rantisi sat quietly and listened to the memories of the massacre at Khan Younis, he could still hear the screaming and wailing over the body of his uncle.

"I couldn't sleep for many months after that," El-Rantisi told Joe Sacco three years before the Hamas official was assassinated by an Israeli missile. "It left a wound in my heart that can never heal.

"They planted hatred in our hearts."

After spending three months examining the roots of that hatred, and more than six years getting his graphic thoughts in order, Sacco doubts that peace will break through the scorched earth of the Gaza Strip.

"I hold out less hope now than ever," the Portland cartoonist said.

Yet as you quietly make your way through "Footnotes in Gaza: A Graphic Novel," and the murderous echoes of the Israeli purges at Khan Younis and Rafah, what hope and optimism remains for journalism and comics.
So they consider Israel the criminals here, not Hamas, and don't recognize the rocket attacks they launched as a crime either? Absolutely atrocious, and for that, the Oregonian should be avoided like the plague.

The War on the Family Farmer

My wife and her sisters grew up on the family dairy farm. Daily they helped their dad with the chores. Baling hay, planting corn, milking cows, killing and cleaning chickens, mending fence, spearing barn rats with pitchforks, playing tagon the barn roof and hide and seek in the silo. She's been kicked in the head to concussion by cows and zapped senseless by electric fence.

Which may explain alot. . .

But she also understands and is unafraid of hard physical work better than nearly any other person I know.

Certainly better than the moron and moocher in 1600 Pennsylvania. Neither of whom have ever raised a callous on their hands in their life.

Kids have been working on the American family farm and homestead since before America was America. In many cases it has been the difference between the success or failure of the family farm. Between eating and not.

UPDATE: Uncle Barry sez nevermind.

Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

“Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.

Rossie Blinson, a 21-year-old college student from Buis Creek, N.C., told The Daily Caller that the federal government’s plan will do far more harm than good.

“The main concern I have is that it would prevent kids from doing 4-H and FFA projects if they’re not at their parents’ house,” said Blinson.

“I started showing sheep when I was four years old. I started with cattle around 8. It’s been very important. I learned a lot of responsibility being a farm kid.”

In Kansas, Cherokee County Farm Bureau president Jeff Clark was out in the field — literally on a tractor — when TheDC reached him. He said if Solis’s regulations are implemented, farming families’ labor losses from their children will only be part of the problem.

“What would be more of a blow,” he said, “is not teaching our kids the values of working on a farm.”

The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the average age of the American farmer is now over 50.
“Losing that work-ethic — it’s so hard to pick this up later in life,” Clark said. “There’s other ways to learn how to farm, but it’s so hard. You can learn so much more working on the farm when you’re 12, 13, 14 years old.”

John Weber, 19, understands this. The Minneapolis native grew up in suburbia and learned the livestock business working summers on his relatives’ farm.

He’s now a college Agriculture major.

“I started working on my grandparent’s and uncle’s farms for a couple of weeks in the summer when I was 12,” Weber told TheDC. “I started spending full summers there when I was 13.”

"The work ethic is a huge part of it. It gave me a lot of direction and opportunity in my life. If they do this it will prevent a lot of interest in agriculture. It’s harder to get a 16 year-old interested in farming than a 12 year old.”

Weber is also a small businessman. In high school, he said, he took out a loan and bought a few steers to raise for income. “Under these regulations,” he explained, “I wouldn’t be allowed to do that.”

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics

Last Week: Initial claims for state unemployment benefits slipped 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 386,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's data was revised to show 8,000 more applications received than previously reported.

This Week: Jobless claims fell by 1,000 to 388,000 in the week ended April 21 from a revised 389,000 the prior period that was the highest since early January, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of 48 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a drop to 375,000.

So for the last two weeks they have increased the previous week's job losses to make the current week's look like less lost than the previous week. Adding a total of 11,000 more jobs lost than previously reported so they could say claims fell 3,000 instead of increasing by 9,000. I think.

A pattern they have been practicing for a long time now. Just look at March.

The week of March 3 was originally reported as 362k lost to 365k the next week so they could report a decrease.

The week of March 10 from 351k to 353k

The week of March 17 from 348k to 364k

The week of March 24 from 359k to 363k

If I tried this with my bank accounts to pay creditors that keep calling these days I'd end up in jail.

Truth is I don't think they have a clue of how bad it is out here. What's really going on. And I don't think they care. Any of them.

"We're headed in the right direction. Unemployment continues to drop and those people who are unemployed, they're not going to be voting for the party who wants to cut their benefits, cut access to food stamps, cut job training," Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) said on MSNBC's Al Sharpton program.

"The idea that Republicans are trying to help those who are unemployed is nonsense and I think that on this election day, those who have a job can credit the administration for stabilizing our economy and those who don't know that this administration is trying to put them to work," he said.

That's cynical as it gets. And Chaka needs to keep in mindonly those who are still collecting unemployment may MAY vote for Obama to keep them. How about those millions who are unemloyed and no longer collecting? Or never were able to collect?

Oh, that's right. They're not counted in the statistics. They don't exist. So no worries.

I'd love to discuss this further but I need to get back to trying to find a job.

Whether it really exists or not.

George Zimmerman: Prelude to a shooting

Reuters does a great job in this Investigative Report:

During the time Zimmerman was in hiding, his detractors defined him as a vigilante who had decided Martin was suspicious merely because he was black. After Zimmerman was finally arrested on a charge of second-degree murder more than six weeks after the shooting, prosecutors portrayed him as a violent and angry man who disregarded authority by pursuing the 17-year-old.

But a more nuanced portrait of Zimmerman has emerged from a Reuters investigation into Zimmerman's past and a series of incidents in the community in the months preceding the Martin shooting.

Based on extensive interviews with relatives, friends, neighbors, schoolmates and co-workers of Zimmerman in two states, law enforcement officials, and reviews of court documents and police reports, the story sheds new light on the man at the center of one of the most controversial homicide cases in America.

The 28-year-old insurance-fraud investigator comes from a deeply Catholic background and was taught in his early years to do right by those less fortunate. He was raised in a racially integrated household and himself has black roots through an Afro-Peruvian great-grandfather - the father of the maternal grandmother who helped raise him.

A criminal justice student who aspired to become a judge, Zimmerman also concerned himself with the safety of his neighbors after a series of break-ins committed by young African-American men.

Though civil rights demonstrators have argued Zimmerman should not have prejudged Martin, one black neighbor of the Zimmermans said recent history should be taken into account.

"Let's talk about the elephant in the room. I'm black, OK?" the woman said, declining to be identified because she anticipated backlash due to her race. She leaned in to look a reporter directly in the eyes. "There were black boys robbing houses in this neighborhood," she said. "That's why George was suspicious of Trayvon Martin."

‘Fairness’ : everyone suffers equally (except me, and my buds)

It’s NOT just that this admin’s guiding, and underlying belief that success means you must have done something to euchre a lot of people, somehow, and to make life fair the govt whose good is unquestionable, will intercede to take what was unfairly gained and make sure it goes to ‘the right places’.
It’s also that they concurrently believe HUMANS deficient and therefore Gaia must be saved at the expense of human sacrifice and suffering, especially if you are an american (and therefore have succeeded relative to others by euchring them).
Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that “no one knows” if gasoline prices in the United States will reach $9 per gallon, and acknowledged that the possibility is outside his control.
But that’s not enough…
Are you familiar with a certain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official namedAl Armendariz?
Chances are you’ve never heard of him. We suspect most Americans haven’t. However, with the recent unearthing of the video below, that could change very soon.
Thanks to a little digging by the staff of Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), attention has been brought to a 2010 video that seems to confirm what many conservatives have long suspected: that the EPA is at war with the oil and gas industries.
And of course this is all the case because…
“I was the first to call for a 100 percent auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter,” Obama continued. “That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”
So they claim they are POWERLESS to stop oil prices increasing while they act against all fossil fuel entities, PROUDLY, based on the underlying principles of the chief who wants to bankrupt the ‘bad guys’.
If gasoline is $9 a gallon they won’t have to worry about any pollution. They will be facing sedition, insurrection, riots, looting and civil unrest nationwide at Kent State, Watts level by the unemployed, car-less, hopeless, young, and retired.
At $4/gallon we have to plan and budget to see our children and grandchildren 250 miles away. At $9/gallon it’s really 1865 again for seeing family 250 miles away.
Do those people in Washington even CARE about the real HATRED they are inspriring among the people?
This is one of the bluest of states, a rural state, devoid of healthy industry and growing economies. Significantly, in discussions which happen every day, I can’t find ANYONE who voted for Obama, OR WILL ADMIT DOING SO. Yet he got 58% of the vote here.
IMHO, not only are Mr Obama’s attitudes, AND EXECUTIVE ACTIONS relative to the Constitution a danger to the republic (the most since Nixon) but his utterly impractical and unrealistic ideas which result in plans and policies also endanger the American way of life …AND THAT IS HIS PURPOSE.
Nothing can be more important than his defeat this year.
Is is not nothing that that while his arrogant pronouncements and those of his appointees assault our lives every day, his think alikes get INTEREST FREE LOANS.
Nothing can be illustrative of the acceptable, self justifying corruption of the political classes than this kind of mindset. GSA anyone?
