Press accounts have said that the kids, particularly the girls, need to be "deprogrammed" from this religion, and that it is abusive, polygamist, and unconscionable in its "rapist" behavior toward young teens.
Oh, and they dress in quaint, modest clothing.
Can you imagine hearing representatives from the state saying this about say, a certain religion whose name begins with an "I" and ends with an "M", with an "S-L-A" in the middle?:
Now, if the state gets its way, hundreds of children could be put in foster homes, in what could be a wrenching cultural adjustment that may require intensive counseling.
"What they are up against is having to deprogram an entire community."
Yes, that's what we are up against.

I was discussing this same issue with my wife before reading your post. There are many of parallels between Mormon based polygamist splinter groups and the religion of peace. The similarities stop when it comes to violence and mayhem though (we all know the undisputed victors in this category.) The real question is: why hold one religious group accountable for their beliefs and actions and not the other. What makes one groups religious views more or less valid? We choose to hold one group liable, but the other we make excuses and accommodation for? If there was ever a case for discrimination based on religion, this could be it. When they go to court I hope they ask similar questions.
Eof USA,
You said: why hold one religious group accountable for their beliefs and actions and not the other. What makes one groups religious views more or less valid?
I say: I don't know. Mormonism has contributed a lot more to the United States than Islam has.
