Australia: Man whipped after breaching Islamic law

Alcohol!

A man who was held down on his bed and whipped up to 40 times by strangers had recently converted to Islam and was reportedly being punished for drinking.

2 men out of 4 (who participated in the whipping) had already been arrested.

He can't leave either or they kill him. Moral of the story, don't convert.

Ronmorgen,

Hey I wouldn't have been likely to convert to Islam even before I heard about this. Heck, most likely I wouldn't have found Islam all that appealing even prior to 9/11 when I was naive and knew next to nothing about it.

Personally, I choose not to consume alcoholic beverages, but regardless, this is still disturbing to me. One of the things, I'm wondering is, how on Earth did they find out he was drinking in the first place? I wouldn't imagine Muslim fundamentalists hanging out in bars. Did his attackers hear a rumor and decide to act on it, or did this guy have no idea about what sharia says about alcohol, and drank liquor in public without trying to hide it? Either way, this attack was brazen. Its not like "sharia vigilantism" is legal in Austria.

In the USA -
Felony kidnapping
Felony aggravated assault x 4

“This criminal act has no place in Islam. As Australian Muslims we are required to follow Australian law, not take the law into our own individual hands,” Ahmed Kilami, from the Muslim Village, told the Seven Network.

“I hope these guys are caught and face the full force of the law.”

THE RIGHT WORDS BUT BE SURE -OSTRACIZE THE MONORS PUBLICLY

Damien: I understood that it was his birthday and that he had been hanging out with some friends to celebrate it.

I agree. And the sooner the better.
